2) Can I use this coupling on IMC, or is it rigid conduit only?
Both. The Steel City HK coupling is built for rigid (RGD) and intermediate metal conduit (IMC), which share the same outside diameters by trade size, so one coupling covers either raceway. It is not intended for EMT, which is a thinner wall with a different OD; EMT needs an EMT-specific compression fitting.
3) Do I need to thread the conduit to use a Steel City HK compression coupling?
No. It is a compression fitting, so it grips the plain end of the rigid or IMC run when the gland nut is tightened. That is what makes it useful where you have cut conduit in the field, or where two fixed runs meet and neither can be turned to thread into a standard threaded coupling.
4) When should I use a compression coupling instead of a threaded or set screw coupling on rigid conduit?
Use the compression style when you cannot rotate either length of conduit, such as tying into an existing run, repairing a cut section, or closing a gap between two anchored raceways. 6) Is the Steel City HK coupling a connector for terminating conduit into a box?
No. It is a coupling, meant to splice two lengths of rigid or IMC conduit together mid-run. To land conduit into an enclosure you need a compression connector with a locknut and male hub, not this part.
7) What is the Steel City HK coupling body made of?
