Steel City TS 904 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What conduit sizes does the Steel City steel two-hole EMT strap come in?
Two sizes: 1-1/4 inch (part TS 904) and 2 inch (part TS906-1). Match the strap size to the EMT trade size you are running, not to the measured outside diameter of the tubing.
2) Is a two-hole strap better than a one-hole strap for supporting EMT?
A two-hole strap anchors on both sides of the conduit, so it resists twisting and holds the run in line better than a one-hole strap. That matters on larger EMT like 1-1/4 and 2 inch, on vertical runs, and anywhere the raceway takes a pull. One-hole straps are quicker and cheaper on small conduit in light-duty interior work.
3) Are screws or anchors included with the Steel City EMT two-hole strap?
The strap is sold as the strap only, priced and shipped each. You supply the fasteners: sheet metal or wood screws into framing, toggles or plastic anchors into drywall, concrete screws or expansion anchors into masonry, two per strap.
4) Can these steel EMT straps be used outdoors or in a damp area?
The strap is steel with a zinc plated finish, which handles dry interior and normally dry protected locations well. Zinc plating is a light corrosion coating, not a marine or chemical-duty one, so for direct weather exposure, wet process areas, or coastal work most specs call for stainless or a heavier hot-dip galvanized support.
5) How many EMT straps do I need for a conduit run?
Support spacing is set by code, not by the strap. For EMT the usual rule is a support within 3 feet of each box, cabinet or termination, and at least every 10 feet along the run. Order accordingly, since these straps are sold individually rather than by the box.
6) Can I stack two runs of EMT under one two-hole strap?
No. Each strap is formed to a single trade size of EMT and secures one raceway. Running two pipes under one strap leaves both loose and is not a listed support method. Use one strap per conduit, or a multi-conduit channel and clamp assembly if you are ganging runs.
