1) What conduit types does the Steel City FP flange plate work with?
The FP flange plate is made for rigid metal conduit and IMC (intermediate metal conduit). It is not intended for EMT or PVC runs, so if your raceway is thinwall or nonmetallic you need a different fitting family.
2) Is the Steel City FP flange plate okay for damp or outdoor locations?
It is malleable iron with a zinc plated finish, which gives it corrosion resistance for general indoor and protected exterior industrial use. Zinc plating is a coating, not galvanizing, so in continuously wet, washdown, or coastal service expect it to need attention sooner than a hot dip galvanized or stainless fitting.
3) Do I order the FP flange plate by conduit trade size or by the hole size in the box?
Order it by conduit trade size. The four options (1/2, 3/4, 1, and 2 inch) match the trade size of the rigid or IMC run it serves, so match the plate to the conduit, not to anything measured off the enclosure wall.
4) Why choose a malleable iron flange plate instead of a die cast or steel one?
Malleable iron takes mechanical abuse and thread torque better than zinc die cast, which is why it is the usual pick on rigid and IMC in plants, tunnels, parking structures, and other places the conduit may get knocked. For a light commercial job where the raceway is EMT and never touched, a cheaper fitting material is normally acceptable.
5) I need to standardize flange plates across a facility with several conduit sizes. Can I stay with one part family?
