1) What trade sizes do Steel City BG801L insulated grounding bushings come in?
The Steel City insulated grounding bushing line runs from 1/2 inch through 3-1/2 inch trade size: 1/2 in (BG801L), 3/4 in (BG802L), 1 in (BG803L), 1-1/4 in (BG804L), 1-1/2 in (BG805L), 2 in (BG806L), 2-1/2 in (BG807L), 3 in (BG808L) and 3-1/2 in (BG809L). Order by the conduit trade size, not the outside diameter of the pipe.
2) Will a Steel City grounding bushing thread onto EMT?
No. These bushings are threaded for rigid and intermediate metallic conduit (IMC), which carry male NPT threads on the end. EMT is not threaded, so a run of EMT entering a box or enclosure needs an EMT connector with a grounding lug instead, or a threaded fitting ahead of the bushing.
3) What does the insulated throat on a grounding bushing actually do?
It protects the conductors. The plastic insulating liner sits in the throat where the wire turns out of the conduit, so the pulled conductors bear on plastic rather than a metal thread edge. The bushing body itself still bonds the conduit and carries a lug for the equipment grounding conductor, so you get the bond and the wire protection in one fitting instead of a separate bushing and insulator.
4) Does the grounding bushing come with the bonding jumper wire?
No wire is included. The bushing supplies the lug; you provide the bonding jumper and size it to the circuit per code for the equipment grounding conductor. Plan on a lug screw termination at the bushing and a landing point on the enclosure ground bus or a bonding screw.
5) I'm replacing a grounding bushing on 2 inch rigid conduit. Which part number do I order?
For 2 inch rigid or IMC, order BG806L. Match the trade size stamped on the conduit or read it off the existing fitting; if the run is 2-1/2 inch it's BG807L, and 1-1/2 inch is BG805L.
