Steel City P 60 CP AL – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Steel City P60 CP carpet plate and what does it do?
It's a one-piece round carpet plate for a recessed floor service box. The plate sits on top of the floor box opening and trims out the cut in carpet or finished flooring so the carpet edge is held down and the box opening is covered. It measures 5-11/16 inches in diameter and is sold each.
2) Does the P60 CP carpet plate come in anything other than brass?
Two materials: brass (P 60 CP) and aluminum (P 60 CP AL). Both are the same one-piece 5-11/16 inch round plate. Brass is the usual pick where the plate will be visible in a finished space; aluminum is the lower-cost look-alike for back-of-house or utility areas.
3) Will this plate cover my floor box opening?
The plate is 5-11/16 inches across, so it covers a round floor box opening smaller than that and leaves a bearing edge on the finished floor. Measure the actual cut in your slab or deck first: if the opening is larger than 5-11/16 inches the plate will drop through, and you need a larger-diameter cover instead.
4) Is this a complete floor box or just the cover?
Just the trim. The P60 CP is the carpet plate only, ordered each. The floor box itself, and any receptacle or device plus the plugs or service fittings, are separate items. If you're building a new opening you need the box, the device, and this plate.
5) I'm standardizing floor box covers across a building. Can I mix brass and aluminum P60 CP plates?
Yes, they're the same plate in two materials and the same 5-11/16 inch diameter, so they interchange on the same openings. For appearance, keep one material per space: brass and aluminum won't visually match side by side in the same conference room or lobby floor.
6) Can I use a carpet plate like this over tile or hard flooring instead of carpet?
A carpet plate is built to clamp and conceal a cut carpet edge around a recessed floor box. Over tile, wood, or bare concrete it will still cover the opening, but on hard flooring most spec writers call out a flush floor box cover or service fitting matched to the finished floor rather than a carpet plate, since there is no carpet edge to trap.
