    1) Will an STI Universal Push Button mount to the electrical box I already have in the wall?
    The STI Universal Push Button mounts to a standard electrical handi box, so if the opening already has a single-gang box behind the existing button, the swap is direct. The faceplate is oversized cast aluminum, which covers the wall damage and paint lines left by whatever button was there before. Buttons arrive pre-assembled.
    2) Should I get the momentary or the pneumatic timer version of the STI Universal Push Button?
    Momentary is the one for a normal request-to-exit or door release: press it, the contacts transfer, release it and they drop back. Pneumatic uses a mechanical adjustable timer, 4 to 60 seconds, so one press holds the door released for a set dwell, which is what you want on an ADA operator or a door someone has to walk through with a cart. The trade-off is temperature. Momentary is rated -40 to 185 degrees F; pneumatic only 15 to 120 degrees F. For an unheated garage, a loading dock, or any exterior northern application, take the momentary. A latching timer option is also offered on the momentary side.
    3) Can an STI Universal Push Button switch a mag lock circuit directly, or do I need a relay?
    Contacts are rated 10A at 125/250 VAC and 6A at 30 VDC, which is well above what a 12 or 24 VDC mag lock or strike draws, so the button can break the lock power line directly without an interposing relay. Two Form C contact blocks come in the kit, giving you both normally open and normally closed poles, so you can drop the mag lock and signal the panel off the same press.
    4) Is the STI Universal Push Button UL listed and ADA compliant for an egress door?
    UL Listed, including UL294 access control (LTUL), and ADA compliant. That combination is what an inspector looks for on an egress or barrier-free opening, and it is the reason this button clears specs on institutional and government work where a generic pushbutton will not.
    5) What do I have to specify when ordering an STI Universal Push Button?
    Two choices decide the part. Button size, 1.5 inch or 2 inch, and timer type: None (plain momentary), Adjustable (the pneumatic 4 to 60 second timer), or Latching. All six combinations of those two are orderable. Lens color and wording are not separate order lines because the kit ships with red, green and blue lenses in your button size, five button labels, and 7 to 10 message lens inserts, so you pick the legend at install rather than at order time.
    6) Do I need to run power to an STI Universal Push Button?
    Only if you want the button or message lens lit. The switch itself is a dry contact set and works with no power at all. Illumination takes 12 to 24 VDC or VAC, so a lit PUSH TO EXIT legend needs a low-voltage feed pulled to the box along with the switch legs. Plan that before the box is closed up.
    7) I manage a building with a dozen different exit buttons. Can I standardize on one part?
    That is what this series is built around.     Yes. Each kit ships with red, green and blue lens covers, five button labels and 7 to 10 illuminated message lens inserts, all sized to your button. If a door changes use, or the AHJ wants different wording, the lens comes off and the insert swaps without pulling the button off the box. Replacement 2 inch lens kits are also available separately.
    9) Will the pneumatic STI push button hold up in an unheated warehouse or outdoors in winter?
    No, not below 15 degrees F. The pneumatic timer version is rated 15 to 120 degrees F, and the mechanical timing element is what limits it. Use the momentary version for those locations, rated -40 to 185 degrees F, and get your dwell time from the access control panel or door operator instead of from the button.
    10) Does the STI Universal Push Button give me a second set of contacts to signal the alarm panel?
    Two Form C contact blocks are included, each with a normally open and a normally closed set. One typically breaks the lock power, the second reports the press back to the access control or alarm panel as a request-to-exit input. Both sets carry the same 10A at 125/250 VAC, 6A at 30 VDC rating, so neither is a low-signal-only pole.
    11) How long does the STI Universal Push Button hold the door released, and can I adjust it on site?
    On the pneumatic version the dwell is mechanically adjustable from 4 to 60 seconds at the button, no programming and no panel change, which is how you tune an ADA opening after watching real traffic through it. The plain momentary version releases only while pressed. A latching option is available on the momentary side where the contact needs to stay transferred until pressed again.
    12) Should I choose the 1.5 inch or 2 inch STI push button?
    The 2 inch face is the one to use where the button doubles as an ADA actuator or sits in a corridor people hit at speed with an elbow or a cart, because the larger target and larger message lens read from further off. The 1.5 inch suits a tighter mullion or a staff-side release where the legend does not need to be seen across the room. Both take the same red, green and blue lenses and both are offered with no timer, an adjustable pneumatic timer, or a latching timer.
