1) What size hole does the Metallics MSTD2061 stop bit drill, and how deep can it go?
The MSTD2061 is a 3/8 inch diameter stop bit with 1-1/16 inches of usable length. The collar stops the bit once that usable depth is reached, so every hole comes out the same depth. If your anchor or fastener needs a hole deeper than 1-1/16 inches, this bit will not reach it.
2) I need a 3/8 inch anchor hole deeper than an inch. Is the MSTD2061 the right bit?
No. The usable length on the MSTD2061 is 1-1/16 inches, and the stop shoulder physically prevents going past it. For deeper 3/8 inch holes you need either a stop bit with a longer usable length or a plain 3/8 inch bit with a depth stop you set yourself.
3) Why would an electrician use a stop bit instead of a standard masonry or twist bit?
A stop bit has a fixed shoulder behind the cutting end, so it drills to one depth and then stops. On repetitive anchor work, where dozens of holes have to be identical for a drop-in or sleeve anchor to seat correctly, that removes the guesswork of tape on the bit or eyeballing the depth.
