Sure-Loc Forma Leverset with Push-Pin Privacy Locking

The Sure-Loc Forma leverset is a tubular bored lockset for interior doors, available in Dummy, Passage and Privacy functions. Privacy sets use a push-pin lock with emergency release. Handing is reversible and the latch adjusts to a 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" (60-70mm) backset, fitting doors 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" (35-45mm) thick. An expansion pack is available for 2-1/4" doors, and a square-corner latch and strike pack (STRDB-SQPK) is offered for a cleaner mortised look.

Forma is part of Sure-Loc's Ridgecrest collection: a modular rectangular rosette that pairs with your choice of lever grip. Choose the rosette finish (Satin Nickel, Polished Chrome, Flat Black or Satin Brass), then the grip style (Knurled, Straight Knurled, Smooth, Vertex or Walnut) and grip finish. Grips and rosettes are finished separately, so two-tone combinations are available. Each handle is built to order and assembled before shipping.

Sure-Loc FR100 15 GRIP-KN 15 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Sure-Loc Forma leverset fit a 1-3/8 inch interior door, or do I need a 1-3/4 inch door?
Both work. The Forma leverset covers doors 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches (35-45mm) thick as supplied, which is the standard range for interior residential doors. If you have thicker doors, an expansion pack is available to take it out to 2-1/4 inches.
2) Does the Sure-Loc Forma lever come with a 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch backset latch?
One latch covers both. The Forma ships with an adjustable latch that sets to either 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches (60-70mm), so you do not pick a backset when you order. Those are the two backsets used on virtually all bored residential doors, so it drops into existing prep either way.
3) Which function should I order for a bathroom or bedroom door versus a closet?
Three functions are offered. Privacy for bathrooms and bedrooms, which uses a push-pin lock with an emergency release on the outside. Passage for closets, halls and any door that just needs to latch with no lock. Dummy for a fixed pull on a non-latching door such as a false leaf or a French door slab. Model designations run FR100 / FR101 / FR102.
4) I need a keyed entry lever, not the Sure-Loc Forma. What should I order instead?
The Forma is non-keyed in every configuration, so it will not serve an exterior or lockable office door. For a keyed entry lever, the Hager 2525 is a Grade 2 commercial cylindrical entry lock for doors 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch, the Falcon B511CP6D is a Grade 2 entry/office lever, and the Cal-Royal AG00 is a Grade 2 entrance lever with a 6-pin Schlage C keyway keyed different and 2-3/8 inch backset. The Callan Bennett BN3001R pairs a Grade 3 entrance leverset with a deadbolt.
5) What is a good alternative to the Sure-Loc Forma leverset for a commercial opening that needs a Grade 1 passage lever?
The Sure-Loc Forma is a residential tubular leverset in Dummy, Passage and Privacy functions. For a commercial corridor or closet door where a Grade 1 passage lever is specified, the Falcon K101 is a Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical passage lock with non-handed levers, fire rated, fitting doors 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch thick. The Corbin Russwin CL3110 is another Grade 1 passage/closet lever, vandal resistant and fire rated, for doors 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch. The Design Hardware X75 is a Grade 1 passage lever lockset with a flat lever for 1-3/4 inch doors.
6) What is the closest equivalent to the Sure-Loc Forma privacy leverset for a bedroom or bathroom door?
The Forma privacy set uses a push-pin lock with emergency release on a rectangular rosette. Comparable non-keyed privacy levers include the Baldwin Estate 5103 Privacy Lever with 5048 rose, the Kwikset 300BRNL RDT Breton privacy lever set, a Grade 3 privacy lock for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick, and the Hager 2540, a Grade 2 privacy cylindrical lock with the Withnell lever for doors 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch.
7) Will the Sure-Loc Forma work on a 2 inch thick door, and what should I use if not?
The Forma fits doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick, with an expansion pack available for 2-1/4 inch doors. If you want a lever rated straight through to 2 inches out of the box, the Hager 2510 Grade 2 passage lever covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch, the Dexter C1000 asylum function covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch, and the Falcon K101 Grade 1 passage covers 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch. The Arrow GL01 Grade 2 Sierra passage lever is built for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors.
8) Is the Sure-Loc Forma suitable for a classroom or storeroom door?
No. The Forma is non-keyed and offered only in Dummy, Passage and Privacy, so it cannot hold a locked latch against an outside lever. For classroom use the Dexter C1000 classroom is a Grade 1 clutching keyed lever for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Cal-Royal AG03 is a Grade 2 classroom lever with a 6-pin Schlage C keyway and 2-3/4 inch backset. For storeroom, the Cal-Royal AG05 is a Grade 2 storeroom lockset with a deadlocking latchbolt and the Hager 2580 is a Grade 2 storeroom lock with the Withnell lever.
9) For a hotel or multi-family interior door where the Sure-Loc Forma is residential grade, what heavier passage lever holds up better?
The Forma is classified for residential use. Where the traffic warrants a commercial cylindrical lever, the Falcon T101 is a Grade 1 heavy duty passage lever with pressure release technology, the Falcon B101 is a Grade 2 medium duty non-handed passage lever, the Dexter C1000 passage is a Grade 1 clutching non-keyed lever for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Accentra 5301LN Augusta is a Grade 2 passage/closet cylindrical lever in the 5300 Series.
10) Does the Sure-Loc Forma carry a fire rating, and what should I specify on a rated opening?
The Forma is a residential tubular leverset in dummy, passage and privacy functions. On a labeled opening, specify a lever the manufacturer rates for it: the Falcon K101 Grade 1 passage lock is fire rated and fits doors 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch, the Corbin Russwin CL3110 Grade 1 passage/closet lever is fire rated for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors, and the Arrow MK02-TA privacy lock with Tudor knob is fire rated. Kwikset also offers the 200DL-RCALFD Delta passage lever with a round corner adjustable 20 minute UL latch.
11) Do I have to specify left or right hand for the Forma leverset?
No handing to specify. The Forma is reversible in the field, so the same lever works on a left or right hand door. That matters if you are buying for a whole building and want one part number on the shelf instead of two.
12) Can I get a black lever with a satin nickel rose on the Sure-Loc Forma?
Yes, two-tone is normal here. The rectangular rosette and the lever grip are finished separately, so you pick the rosette finish and the grip finish independently. Both axes offer Satin Nickel, Polished Chrome, Flat Black and Satin Brass. Each handle is assembled to order before it ships.
13) My doors are mortised for a square-corner latch faceplate. Will the Forma work?
Yes, order the square-corner latch and strike pack, STRDB-SQPK. It swaps the standard latch and strike for square-corner parts that sit in a mortised prep for a cleaner look. Existing round-corner prep needs no extra part.
14) How does the Forma privacy lever compare to a Kwikset Breton privacy set?
Both are push-button style interior privacy levers for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, the Kwikset 300BRNL RDT being a Grade 3 privacy set with a round rose. The difference is the trim: Forma uses a rectangular rosette and lets you choose the grip style and finish separately from the rose, including two-tone. Kwikset is a fixed configuration.
15) What is a simpler substitute for the Sure-Loc Forma passage lever on interior doors?
If the built-to-order modular rosette and grip choice of the Forma is more than the job needs, single-model passage levers cover the same opening. The Kwikset 200BRNL RDT Breton is a Grade 3 passage lever for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, the Callan Asheville AH5011 is a Grade 3 passage leverset in satin nickel, and the Bravura Atlanta and Orlando are Grade 2 passage leversets with round trim. Each ships as a fixed configuration rather than a rosette-plus-grip build.
16) Which dummy levers compare to the Sure-Loc Forma dummy function?
The Forma dummy is a non-keeping trim lever on the Ridgecrest rectangular rosette. Other dummy levers include the Baldwin Estate 5103 half dummy, offered in left hand and right hand versions with the 5048 rose, the Emtek Arts and Crafts and Cortina dummy levers sold as pairs, and the Callan Bentley BN5051 Grade 2 dummy lever. For commercial trim, the BEST 9K Series 1DT is a Grade 1 heavy duty single dummy and the BEST 7KC Series 1DT is a Grade 2 medium duty single dummy.
17) I want code or keypad access on an interior door instead of the Sure-Loc Forma push-pin privacy. What are the options?
The Forma is a mechanical, non-electronic leverset. For coded access on a lever, the Lockey 1150 is a heavy duty mechanical keypad lever set with double combination in passage function for doors 1-1/8 inch to 2 inch thick, the Delaney LP250 is a Grade 2 electronic keypad leverlock, and the Emtek Classic Keypad Leverset offers keypad entry in the Classic trim family.
18) If I like the square rosette look of the Sure-Loc Forma, what else has square trim?
The Forma uses a rectangular rosette from the Ridgecrest collection, and a square-corner latch and strike pack is offered for a cleaner mortised look. The Bravura Tampa is a passage leverset with square trim in Grade 2, which gives a similar squared face; the Bravura Atlanta, Orlando and Miramar in the same range use round trim instead.
19) What looks like a substitute for the Sure-Loc Forma leverset but is not one?
Several items in the same aisle are trim or components rather than a complete interior leverset. The Corbin Russwin 585F715 is a lock lever for the ED8000 pushpad exit device and the CL3300 cylindrical series, not a standalone lockset. The Imperial USA ED-EL500HD is heavy duty escutcheon lever trim for an exit device. The Codelocks CL410 and CL415 tubular latchbolt is a latch only. The Accentra 107S is a Schlage cylinder adapter kit for Yale hardware. None of these replaces a Forma dummy, passage or privacy set.
20) What lever grip styles does the Forma come in?
Five grips mount to the same rectangular Forma rosette: Knurled, Straight Knurled, Smooth, Vertex and Walnut. It is a modular setup, part of Sure-Loc's Ridgecrest collection, so you can run the same rosette through a house and vary the grip room to room.
21) I need a dummy lever for a pantry door. Does the Forma dummy come as a single or do I need a pair?
Forma dummy is ordered by the piece on the Dummy function, in whichever rosette and grip combination you want. If you need a matched pair for a double door, order two. Some other lines are sold differently, for instance the Emtek Arts and Crafts dummy is packaged as a pair, and Baldwin's Estate 5103 half dummy is handed left or right.
