Tell EDRLT53-26D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Tell EDRLT53 lever trim work on a 1-3/8 inch door?
Yes. The Tell EDRLT53 exit device lever trim is built for doors 1-3/8 inch through 1-3/4 inch thick, so it covers both older interior openings at 1-3/8 and standard commercial doors at 1-3/4.
2) What does the EDRLT53 trim actually do on an exit device?
It is the outside trim, not the exit device itself. The EDRLT53 is a keyed entry lever trim: from the outside, the key retracts the latch so the lever pulls the door open, and the panic device on the inside still gives free egress. You need a compatible rim exit device on the push side; this part alone does not latch the door.
3) Can I get several Tell EDRLT53 trims keyed alike for one building?
Yes. Keying is a required selection: keyed different (KD) if each door should have its own key, or keyed alike (KA) so one key runs all the trims you order together. There is also a key code field if you need them cut to a specific existing code.
4) Is the Tell EDRLT53 rated for commercial traffic?
It is a commercial-rated part, Grade 2 under ANSI/BHMA. Grade 2 suits offices, retail, light institutional and multi-family back doors. For a high-abuse opening like a school corridor or a stadium exit, spec a Grade 1 trim instead.
5) What finishes does the Tell EDRLT53 lever trim come in?
Two: 626 satin chrome and 622 black. Satin chrome is the usual match for existing aluminum storefront and commercial exit hardware; 622 black pairs with dark bronze and black storefront systems.
6) Can I order the EDRLT53 without a cylinder if I key it myself?
Yes. Along with KD and KA, there is a no-cylinder option, which is what a locksmith or integrator picks when the trim is going into an existing master key system and the cylinder is supplied separately.
7) Is this a deadbolt or just a lever pull?
The EDRLT53 is keyed lever trim for an exit device, not a standalone deadbolt. Security comes from the exit device latch it operates; adding a separate deadbolt on a panic-hardware egress door is generally not permitted.
