IDEAL Industries 89-505 Terminal Strip, Shorting Block, 4-Pole, 22-6 AWG

The 89-505 shorting block takes copper conductors from 22 AWG up to 6 AWG, so one block handles everything from small control and signal wire to heavier feeder taps. Wire must be copper; the terminals are #10-32 Philslot nickel-plated brass screws, so ring or spade terminals sized for a #10 stud land directly under the screw head.

20 in.-lb. on the terminal screws. That figure matters on the small end of the range especially: a 22 AWG conductor under an over-torqued #10-32 screw crushes and a loose one heats up. Use a torque screwdriver rather than feel when you are landing a full four-pole block.

A shorting block is a terminal strip built to be strapped across poles, so you can tie conductors together in common rather than just pass each one straight through. Electricians reach for it on current transformer circuits, neutral or ground commons, and control commons where several wires have to land on one node. If every conductor needs its own isolated circuit path with no commoning, a straight feed-through terminal strip is the right part instead. The 89-505 is the 4-pole version.

Four poles. For a facility standardizing on one block across multiple panels, that covers a three-phase plus neutral or ground arrangement in a single part. If you need more positions, the 89-505 is the 4-pole member of the family, so step to a higher pole count in the same series rather than ganging two blocks with mismatched spacing.

The screws, surface plates and optional hardware are heavy-duty corrosion-resistant, and the terminal screws are nickel-plated brass, which is what you want where humidity or mild chemical exposure would pit bare steel. The base is polyester thermoplastic rather than phenolic. It is still an open block, so it needs a suitable enclosure for the environment it sits in.
