1) Will the CILBA conduit body thread onto rigid metal conduit?
Yes. The CILBA is built for rigid conduit with threaded hubs, so it threads directly onto RMC (or IMC) with standard NPT conduit threads. For threadless or non-metallic raceway you need a different style of body.
2) What is the difference between the Thomas & Betts CILBA LB body and the Arlington 935NM AnyBODY LB-style body?
The CILBA is a cast aluminum Type LB conduit body with threaded hubs for rigid conduit, offered in 1/2, 3/4, 1-1/4 and 1-1/2 inch hub sizes. The Arlington 935NM is a non-metallic LB-style conduit body in a 2 inch threadless configuration. So the choice comes down to material and connection method: threaded metal hubs on rigid conduit for the CILBA, versus a threadless non-metallic body on the 935NM.
3) I need an LB body for a 2 inch run - what should I use instead of the CILBA?
The CILBA LB body is made in 1/2, 3/4, 1-1/4 and 1-1/2 inch hub sizes, so it will not serve a 2 inch run. For 2 inch, the Arlington Industries 935NM AnyBODY LB-style conduit body is a 2 inch threadless non-metallic body. Confirm your raceway accepts a threadless connection rather than a threaded hub before you order it.
4) Is the CILBA LB body aluminum or steel, and can I use it outdoors?
Cast aluminum. That makes it a good match for aluminum rigid conduit and for exterior wall penetrations where you want corrosion resistance without galvanizing. Avoid it in direct contact with concrete, lime mortar, or where it will sit in standing alkaline runoff, since aluminum corrodes in those conditions.
5) Is the Thomas & Betts CILBA CSA certified for Canadian work?
CSA is the standard listed for the CILBA body, so it is acceptable on CSA-governed Canadian installations.
6) Can I use a non-metallic LB body in place of the cast aluminum CILBA?
They are different build types. The CILBA is cast aluminum and threaded for rigid conduit, which also means the body itself is part of the metal raceway path. The Arlington 935NM is a non-metallic LB-style body, so bonding and grounding continuity have to be carried by the conductors rather than the fitting. Use the non-metallic body only where the raceway system and inspection requirements for the job allow it.
7) Does the CILBA come with a cover and gasket, or do I order those separately?
Order by hub size: CILBA-1/2, CILBA-3/4, CILBA-1 1/4 or CILBA-1 1/2. Each hub size has its own Thomas & Betts spec sheet, and that sheet is the place to confirm the cover and gasket arrangement for the size you are buying before you add accessories to the order.
