1) Is a 7 inch threaded rod long enough to hang conduit or strut from a concrete deck?
Seven inches of 3/8-16 rod suits short drops only, the kind you get hanging strut, conduit clamps or a small junction box tight to a deck or joist. Once you account for the thread taken up by the anchor or insert at the top and the nut and washer at the bottom, usable drop is a few inches less than the full 7. For longer drops you either order a longer cut length or join two pieces with a 3/8-16 coupling nut.
2) Can a zinc plated threaded rod like the TRS87 be used outdoors or in a wet location?
Zinc plating on the TRS87 is a general indoor corrosion coating, fine for dry interior electrical and mechanical hanging. For exterior, damp, corrosive or washdown environments, specify stainless or hot dip galvanized rod instead, since cut ends and thread crests on plated steel rod are where rust starts first.
3) What hardware do I need to order with 3/8-16 threaded rod to complete a hanger assembly?
The TRS87 is bare rod only. A complete drop also needs an attachment at the top (a 3/8 inch drop-in anchor, wedge anchor, beam clamp or concrete insert) and, at the bottom, 3/8-16 hex nuts with flat washers, or a strut nut if you are landing on channel. All of it has to be 3/8-16 to match the rod thread.
4) Is the Metallics TRS87 rod sold as one piece or in a bundle?
The TRS87 is one piece of pre-cut rod, and it is packed as a bundle, so expect the rods banded together rather than individually bagged. If you are standardizing a job on one drop length, ordering the pre-cut 7 inch pieces saves cutting and re-chasing threads on site.
