Metallics DRT12VOH14 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will 1/4-20 rod work for hanging electrical conduit and junction boxes, or do I need 3/8-16?
1/4-20 rod like the DRT12VOH14 is the light-duty size, normally used for small conduit runs, single-gang and small junction boxes, and light fixture drops. Heavier trapeze hangers, large pipe, and most strut assemblies are specified in 3/8-16 or 1/2-13. If the drawing calls out a rod diameter, match it; 1/4-20 is not a substitute for a larger specified rod.
2) Does the Metallics DRT12VOH14 come with nuts and washers?
No. The DRT12VOH14 is rod only, 10 pieces of 1/4-20 x 12 inch. Nuts, washers, couplings, rod hangers and any anchor or beam clamp at the structure have to be ordered separately, all in 1/4-20 to match.
3) Can I cut the 12 inch Metallics rod down for shorter drops?
Yes. The DRT12VOH14 is plain 1/4-20 continuously threaded rod at 12 inches, so it can be cut to any shorter drop length on site with a bolt cutter, portaband or hacksaw. Chase or file the cut end so a 1/4-20 nut still starts cleanly.
4) How do I order the right quantity of Metallics DRT12VOH14 for a job?
The DRT12VOH14 is sold as an assembled pack of 10 rods, so order in multiples of 10 pieces rather than per rod. Count your hanger points, allow for cut-down waste if you are shortening any of the 12 inch lengths, and round up to the next pack.
