Metallics DRT36DFD3388 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will 1/4-20 threaded rod work for hanging electrical boxes and small conduit runs?
That's what this rod is sold for. It's catalogued as an electrical fastener, and 1/4-20 is the usual size for light hanger work: small raceway, single and multi-gang box supports, light fixture drops, and trapeze hangers for modest conduit runs. For heavier trapeze loads most contractors step up to 3/8-16 or 1/2-13 rod instead.
2) What do I need besides the rod itself to hang something with it?
The rod ships on its own, so plan on the attachment hardware separately: an anchor or beam clamp at the structure, 1/4-20 nuts and washers at each end, and whatever hanger, strap, or channel nut carries the load at the bottom. All of it needs to be 1/4-20 to match the rod.
3) How many pieces come in a pack of Metallics DRT36DFD3388?
Ten 36 inch rods per pack, which is 30 linear feet of 1/4-20 rod. Worth knowing if you're pricing out a hanger layout: count your drops, divide the total footage by 36 inches, and order packs from there.
4) What part number do I order for Metallics 1/4-20 x 36 inch threaded rod?
The manufacturer part number is DRT36DFD3388 from Metallics. That single number covers the 1/4-20 x 36 inch rod in the 10 piece pack, so there's no separate length or pack option to specify.
