TOTO TEU3LAR#SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the TOTO TEU3LAR#SS, and what does it actually do on a urinal?
It is a concealed electronic flush valve for a urinal, part number TEU3LAR#SS from TOTO. The valve body and controls mount behind the wall, so only the sensor plate is exposed in the restroom. Flushing is automatic at 0.5 gallons per flush, with no handle for the user to touch.
2) Is the TOTO TEU3LAR#SS a 0.5 gpf valve, and will it work on my existing urinal fixture?
The flush volume is fixed at 0.5 gpf. That matters because the valve has to match the urinal bowl it serves: a bowl rated for 1.0 gpf or 1.28 gpf will not always clear its trap on a half gallon. Check the gpf rating stamped on or specified for your urinal and pair the valve to it. If your bowl is a 0.5 gpf high efficiency urinal, this valve is the matching flush rate.
3) Concealed or exposed urinal flush valve, which should I spec for a public restroom?
Concealed is the choice when you want the hardware out of reach. With the TEU3LAR#SS the valve body sits behind the wall and only the sensor is in the room, which cuts down on vandalism and tampering and leaves a flat wall to clean around. The tradeoff is access: you need an accessible chase or an access panel behind the wall for service. An exposed valve is faster to maintain and cheaper to retrofit into an existing wall, so it is the better pick when there is no chase and no budget to open the wall.
4) Does the TOTO TEU3LAR#SS need power, and what happens when the power goes out?
It is an electronic sensor flush valve, so it requires a power source at the valve location, and that has to be roughed in before the wall closes up. Power type, voltage and any battery backup are detailed in TOTO's spec sheet for TEU3LAR#SS, which should be confirmed against your electrical rough-in before the chase is framed.
5) I am standardizing urinal flush valves across a building. What part number do I order for this TOTO concealed sensor valve?
Order by TOTO part number TEU3LAR#SS. It is a single configuration, so there is nothing further to specify on the order, which makes it straightforward to repeat across multiple restrooms once the 0.5 gpf rate suits the urinal bowls you have installed.
