TOTO THP5234#BN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is TOTO THP5234#BN?
It's a TOTO diverter handle replacement part with the set screw, ordered under part number THP5234#BN. The #BN suffix is TOTO's finish code for brushed nickel. It's a service part for shower and tub valve trim, not a complete valve or trim kit.
2) Will this TOTO handle fix my shower diverter that won't switch between tub spout and showerhead?
Only if the problem is the handle itself, a stripped set screw, or a handle that spins without turning the stem. THP5234#BN is the diverter handle and set screw, not the diverter valve or cartridge. If the handle turns the stem properly and water still won't divert, the valve internals are the issue and this part won't correct it.
3) Does the TOTO THP5234#BN diverter handle come with the set screw, or do I need to order that separately?
The set screw is included with the THP5234#BN handle, so you aren't chasing a separate fastener to get the handle back on the stem. Nothing else in the trim (escutcheon, valve cartridge, tub spout) comes with it.
4) Is the brushed nickel the only finish for the TOTO THP5234 diverter handle?
Brushed nickel is the finish offered under THP5234#BN. TOTO uses the suffix after the # to designate finish, so a different finish is a different part number entirely, not an option on this one. For a multi-fixture bath where the other trim is polished chrome, the brushed nickel handle will not match.
5) I manage apartments with TOTO shower trim. Can I stock this handle as a standard repair part?
It works as a stock repair item only for units already running TOTO brushed nickel diverter trim that takes the THP5234 handle. TOTO handles are series-specific, so confirm the trim series on your openings before standardizing. Buying one handle part number for a building with mixed TOTO trim series will leave you with handles that won't seat on some stems.
