TOTO THP4800 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the Toto THP4800 cartridge actually do in a TSMV valve?
The THP4800 is the diverter cartridge for Toto TSMV valves, the part that routes water between outlets (for example showerhead to handshower). It is not the thermostatic or pressure-balance mixing cartridge, so if your complaint is temperature drift or scalding rather than water coming out of the wrong outlet, this is not the part that fixes it.
2) What are the dimensions of the Toto THP4800 diverter cartridge so I can confirm it matches the one I pulled out?
Measure the old cartridge against three numbers: total height 53.3mm excluding the locating pin, body diameter 31mm, and a splined stem with 20 splines on a 7.6mm diameter. If the stem spline count or the 31mm body diameter differs, you have a different Toto cartridge and the THP4800 will not seat.
3) Will the THP4800 fit any Toto shower valve, or only certain ones?
It is specified for Toto TSMV valves. The locating pin and the 20-spline, 7.6mm stem mean it indexes to that body; a cartridge from another Toto series with a different spline count or diameter will not interchange, and neither will the THP4800 go into a non-TSMV body.
4) My handshower and showerhead both run at once on a Toto TSMV valve. Is the diverter cartridge the fix?
That symptom (water bleeding to both outlets, or the diverter refusing to hold position) points at the diverter cartridge, which is the THP4800 on TSMV valves. Cross-flow can also come from a failed check or a stuck handshower outlet, so pull and inspect the cartridge before ordering a second part.
5) Does the Toto THP4800 come with the handle, trim, or escutcheon?
No. The THP4800 is the cartridge alone, a repair part for the rough valve. Handle, escutcheon and any trim stay with your existing installation and get reused, so keep the set screw and handle hardware when you strip the wall side.
6) What part number do I quote when ordering the Toto TSMV diverter cartridge?
Order by Toto manufacturer part number THP4800. That single number covers the diverter cartridge for TSMV valves; there are no handing, size or finish choices to specify with it.
7) Is the THP4800 a faucet part or a shower part?
Toto catalogs it as a faucet-application part, and in practice it serves the TSMV valve body that feeds shower and tub outlets. Either way, it is plumbing trim-side repair stock, not a tank or flush-valve component.
