TOTO THP4532 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is TOTO part THP4532?
THP4532 is a TOTO valve stem extension, a repair part for the Upton shower line. It extends the valve stem so the trim can be set at the correct depth once the valve body is installed in the wall. It is the extension piece only, not a complete valve or trim kit.
2) My shower valve sits too deep in the wall for the trim to seat. Is a stem extension the right fix?
That is exactly what an extension is for. When the rough valve ends up set back further than the trim allows, a stem extension makes up the difference so the handle and escutcheon land flush on the finished wall instead of forcing you to open the wall and reset the valve. The TOTO THP4532 is that part for the Upton line.
3) Will the TOTO THP4532 extension work on a different brand's shower valve?
Treat it as TOTO only. Stem extensions are cut to a specific valve's stem profile and spline, so a TOTO Upton extension is not a substitute for a Delta, Moen or Kohler extension kit. Match the extension to the valve brand and series already in the wall.
4) Does TOTO THP4532 include the shower trim or handle?
No. THP4532 is a service part only, the valve stem extension. Handles, escutcheons, cartridges and the valve body are ordered separately. If you are replacing damaged trim, order the trim kit for your Upton model; this part only addresses stem depth.
5) What part number should I give my plumber for the TOTO Upton shower stem extension?
Give them TOTO THP4532. That is the manufacturer part number for the Upton valve stem extension, and it is the number a supply house will look up.
