Klein Tools 55600 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How many cans does the Klein Tools 55600 Tough Box cooler hold, and how long will ice last in it?
The Tradesman Pro Tough Box holds 17 quarts (16.1 L), which Klein rates at 18 cans. Polyurethane foam insulation holds contents at up to 41 degrees F (5 degrees C) for 30 hours, so it covers a full shift plus an overnight in the truck without re-icing.
2) Will the Klein Tools Tough Box 17-quart cooler fit behind a truck seat or in a van bin?
Measure for 16.203 inches on the long side, 12 inches high and 12 inches on the other dimension (catalog also lists depth 16.156 in, width 12.094 in, height 12.063 in). That footprint fits most van shelf bays and behind a full-size pickup rear seat. It is also stackable, so it will sit under or on top of other cases in the bed.
3) What is the second compartment on the Klein 55600 cooler for?
There are two compartments. The main 17-quart box takes drinks and food; a separate compartment inside the lid, 6-1/2 by 4 by 1 inches, keeps a phone, keys, utensils or napkins dry and out of the melt water. That is the difference between this and a plain single-cavity cooler.
4) Can the Klein Tough Box cooler be locked up on a jobsite?
It closes with a latch and has a lock hasp, so you can run a Master Lock or any equivalent padlock through it and leave it in a gang box or trailer overnight.
5) Will a 1-liter water bottle stand up in the Klein 55600 cooler?
Yes. The lid is recessed specifically to clear a 1-liter bottle standing upright, and the lid opens a full 180 degrees with a 90-degree stay-open detent so you are not holding it while you reach in.
6) Does the Klein 55600 cooler come with a shoulder strap or just a handle?
Both, from one piece. The shoulder strap converts to a carry handle, and in strap position it also holds the lid shut while you move it, so nothing dumps out crossing a site.
7) How does the Klein Tough Box cooler hold up outdoors and around moisture?
The hinges are stainless steel, so the hardware resists rust from ice melt and weather exposure. Body is gray with orange, a color scheme that stays visible on a cluttered site. Order it as Klein Tools model 55600.
