Blackburn TTC4P – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Blackburn TTC4P connector copper or aluminum?
Copper. The conductor material on the TTC4P is copper, which matters where you are landing a bare copper ground onto a tank pad and want to avoid a dissimilar-metal joint. If the equipment lug or pad you are bonding to is aluminum, treat it as a dissimilar-metal connection and handle it accordingly.
2) What is the Blackburn TTC4P transformer tank ground connector used for?
The TTC4P is a transformer tank ground connector, a grounding device used to terminate a ground conductor to a transformer tank or similar equipment case. It is a mechanical connection, so the conductor is clamped under pressure with a set screw rather than crimped or exothermically welded, which means it can be installed with hand tools and taken apart later if the ground lead has to be re-pulled.
3) How much room do I need to mount a Blackburn TTC4P ground connector?
The TTC4P measures 1-1/4 x 7/8 x 1-3/8 inches overall, with a net depth of 1-3/8 inches. That is the envelope to allow on the tank wall or pad, including wrench clearance to get on the set screw once the ground conductor is seated.
4) Does the Blackburn TTC4P come insulated?
No. The TTC4P has no insulation on it, which is normal for a tank ground connector: the body is bare and the bond is meant to be metal to metal at the equipment case. If your application needs the termination covered, plan on a separate boot or cover.
5) Is the Blackburn TTC4P sold individually or in a bag of multiples?
Each. The TTC4P transformer tank ground connector is sold as a single piece, so order one per termination point rather than assuming a multi-pack quantity.
6) Do I need a torque indicator or shear-head screw on the Blackburn TTC4P?
The TTC4P carries no indicator feature, so there is no shear-off head or visual torque marker to tell you when the set screw is home. Tighten it with a torque wrench to the value called out for the connector rather than relying on the fastener to break away.
