1) Will the Trimco 1097PHI anti-vandal pull work with my Von Duprin 99 exit device?
No. The 1097PHI is the version mated to the Precision Apex 2000 Series device. For a Von Duprin 98 or 99 Series device you want the 1097VD instead, which is the same no-astragal anti-vandal pull cut for that device. Trimco builds the 1090 Series to mate to both, so the trim pattern is device-specific and picking the wrong suffix means the pull will not line up with the device prep.
2) What is the difference between the Trimco 1096 and 1097 anti-vandal pulls?
The astragal. The 1096 comes with an astragal and the 1097 does not. If you are hanging a pair of doors and need the meeting stiles covered, order the 1096; on a single door, or a pair that already has an astragal, the 1097 is the one you want. Everything else about the two is the same family of anti-vandal trim.
3) Does the Trimco anti-vandal pull stop people from chaining the doors shut?
That is what the 1090 Series is built for. There are no exposed handles and no exposed fasteners to grab, wrap, or tamper with, which eliminates the potential for illegal chaining of doors and cuts down on trim damage. It is the reason these show up on schools, parks, government buildings and strip mall storefronts where after-hours chaining is a real problem.
4) I need a locking anti-vandal pull for an outswing classroom door. Is the 1097PHI the right one?
Not by itself. The 1097PHI is exit device trim for a Precision Apex 2000. For a classroom function locking setup, Trimco makes the 1097TL, the Tuf-Lock System anti-vandal push and pull without astragal, which includes a mortise lock for outswing doors. No cylinder is included with it, so the cylinder is a separate line on the order. The 1096TL is the same thing with an astragal.
5) Does the Trimco 1097 anti-vandal pull work on both inswing and outswing doors?
Both. The 1090 Series is available to mate different locksets and exit devices for in swing and out swing doors, so the swing is part of what you specify rather than something that rules the product out. What has to match is the device or lock on the door: the PHI version is cut for the Precision Apex 2000, the VD version for Von Duprin 98/99, and the TL version carries its own mortise lock for outswing openings.
6) I need a pull with a cylinder cutout for a night latch. Is the Cal-Royal PUL-175 the same thing as the Trimco 1097PHI with cylinder prep?
They are not the same part. The Cal-Royal PUL-175 is a night latch cylinder pull, 3-1/2 inch height, stainless steel construction, and is a compact pull sized around a rim cylinder. The Trimco 1097PHI is a heavy duty anti-vandal pull mated to Precision Apex 2000 Series devices, offered with or without cylinder prep, with no exposed handles or fasteners that can be tampered with. Where an opening needs only a small cylinder pull for a rim night latch, the PUL-175 covers it; where the pull must be full anti-vandal trim on a device-equipped door and take the cylinder as part of that trim, the 1097PHI is the part to order.
7) What is a straight equivalent to the Trimco 1097PHI anti-vandal pull for a heavy-traffic exterior door?
The Trimco 1097PHI is a heavy duty anti-vandal pull with no exposed handles or fasteners that can be tampered with, mated to Precision Apex 2000 Series exit devices, and ADA compliant. The closest heavy duty peers are the Ives 8103HD, a heavy duty straight door pull 1 inch round with through bolt mounting, and the Ives 8102HD, a heavy duty straight door pull with a 3/4 inch round bar and 1-1/2 inch clearance. The difference is in form: the 1097PHI is a full anti-vandal trim designed to mate to an exit device, while the 8102HD and 8103HD are conventional through-bolted bar pulls that mount independently of the device. If the opening needs the exit device trim and the pull to be one assembly, the 1097PHI is the item; if the door only needs a graspable pull alongside separate device trim, the Ives heavy duty pulls cover it.
8) I need an ADA compliant offset pull but the door has no exit device to mate to. What should I use instead of the 1097PHI?
The 1097PHI is built to mate to a Precision Apex 2000 Series device, so on a door with no exit device it is the wrong shape of part. The Ives 8145EZHD is a 45 degree offset door pull with heavy duty mounting hardware and is ADA compliant, and the Ives 8169 is a C style offset solid door pull, 1 inch diameter, with heavy duty mounting. Both give an offset grip on a plain door leaf. The 1097PHI stays the choice where the pull has to integrate with the device trim.
9) My pair of doors keeps getting chained shut at night. Will a standard offset pull like the ABH AB3330 solve that?
A standard pull will not. The ABH AB3330 is an offset round end pull with custom length options, and the Deltana SSP1210 is a 12 inch contemporary pull, single side; both are conventional grips with a handle you can pass a chain through. 10) What material are Trimco 1090 Series anti-vandal pulls made from, and will they hold up outdoors?
They are made from 1/8 inch type 316 marine grade stainless steel, brass or bronze. Type 316 is the grade specified where salt air or chlorides are in play, so it is the one to pick for coastal exteriors, pool entries and exposed park buildings. The 1/8 inch plate thickness is what carries the abuse resistance; this is heavy duty trim, not a decorative pull.
11) We want the same anti-vandal pull on doors that do not have exit devices. Can we standardize?
Yes. Trimco offers 1097HA, the handle alone version with no astragal, for openings that do not need the pull mated to a device, plus 1096HA with an astragal.
