Trimco TRI-1208.626 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Trimco 1208 base stop meet ADA requirements for a commercial corridor?
Yes, the 1208 base stop is ADA compliant per Trimco's own spec data, so it can be specified on openings in public and common-use areas where the hardware has to satisfy accessibility requirements. It is a commercial-duty stop, not a residential product, which is the other half of what a facility or institutional buyer usually needs settled before it goes on a purchase order.
2) What finishes does the Trimco 1208 base stop come in, and can I match it to the lever trim already on my doors?
Seven finishes are offered on the 1208: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. Those are standard BHMA finish numbers, so if your existing levers or hinges are marked 626 or 613, order the stop in the same number and it will read as a match across the building. For a portfolio being standardized, 626 satin chrome and 613 oil rubbed bronze are the two most commonly carried through a whole floor.
3) Should I use a base stop like the Trimco 1208 or a wall stop mounted higher up?
A base stop mounts low, at the baseboard, and takes the door on the bottom rail. That is the right call when the wall behind the door is drywall with no solid blocking at lever height, since the baseboard and the framing behind it give you something to anchor into. A wall stop set at lever height is the better choice when the door has a projecting lever or a pull that would swing past a low stop and still hit the wall. Trimco's base stop family spans light, medium and heavy duty, so the decision after that is how much abuse the opening takes.
4) Is the Trimco 1208 heavy duty enough for a school or a hotel corridor?
The 1208 is a commercial base stop, but for genuinely high-abuse openings, schools and hospitality being the usual examples, Trimco builds the 1298 base stop with a 3-point fastening system specifically for that duty. If the door gets kicked open all day or the stop has been torn out of the wall before, step up to the 1298. For ordinary office, retail, multifamily and mixed-use corridors, a standard base stop from the 1208 family does the job.
5) I want a door stop that looks modern instead of a standard bumper. What does Trimco offer?
For projects where the hardware is meant to be seen, Trimco's fOCAL line covers it: the 7010 and 7208 stops carry the modern design cues, versus the more utilitarian look of a conventional base stop such as the 1208. Same job on the door, different visual language. Spring stops are a third route, the 42F being Trimco's, where you want the stop to flex rather than sit rigid.
