Trimco TRI-1296.626 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the difference between the 1296 hanger bolt mount and the S surface mounted version?
Two mounting styles ship under the same 1296 base stop. The hanger bolt version threads a bolt into the wall or base and is the one to use where you can anchor into wood blocking or a solid base. The S surface mounted version fastens through the stop's own face into the wall surface, which is what you want on drywall over metal stud where you have to hit an anchor or a blocking plate. Both come in all seven finishes.
2) Is the Trimco 1296 base stop ADA compliant?
Yes, the 1296 base stop is ADA compliant. That matters on egress corridors and accessible routes where a floor stop would break the required clear width or create a trip point. A base stop mounts at the baseboard and stays out of the walking surface, so it does the same job without the floor obstruction.
3) Should I use a wall base stop or a floor stop behind my door?
A base stop like the Trimco 1296 catches the door at the baseboard, so nothing sits in the floor path to trip over or to fight a vacuum and a mop. That is why it is the usual pick for corridors, hotel rooms, and apartment entries. A floor stop makes more sense where the door does not swing to a wall at all, or where the wall behind it is glass, a millwork panel, or a chase you cannot anchor into. If the wall is reachable, the base stop is the cleaner install.
4) Is the Trimco 1296 rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential stop?
Commercial. The 1296 is specified for commercial and industrial buildings, hospitality, multifamily and mixed-use, offices, and retail. For genuinely high-abuse openings, school corridors and hotel back-of-house, Trimco's 1298 base stop uses a 3-point fastening system instead, and that is the one to step up to where doors get slammed all day.
5) What finishes does the Trimco 1296 base stop come in to match my other door hardware?
Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, and 626 satin chrome. Those are standard BHMA finish numbers, so if your levers and hinges are specified as 626 or 613, order the stop in the same number and it will match across the opening. Every finish is available in both the hanger bolt and surface mounted versions.
