Trimco 1209-3 Heavy-Duty Floor Stop (3 inch Tall Rubber)

That's exactly what the 1209 Series was built for. It's an extra heavy duty floor stop made of high tensile strength steel with an industrial rubber bumper, aimed at high abuse installations like schools and prisons or openings with extra heavy doors. All the fittings are vandal-proof, the stop cannot be taken apart without special tools, and no component can be removed and turned into a weapon. Trimco lists it for schools, commercial and industrial buildings, government and military facilities, prisons and detention facilities, and animal shelters and zoos.

The 1209-3 carries a 3 inch tall rubber bumper, which is the number in the model designation. The standard industrial rubber bumper on the 1209 Series measures 1-3/8 x 2 inches. Bumper height is the spec that decides whether the stop catches the door at the right point, so measure from your finished floor to where you want the door face contacted before you settle on the 3 inch version.

There's an HA option for exactly that. It uses a 1 inch diameter stainless steel shaft embedded up to 7 inches into concrete, with a larger 3 x 2-1/4 inch rubber bumper. That's the version to specify when the door is heavy, the abuse is severe, or a surface-anchored stop would get torn out of the slab. You have to call out HA when you order; the standard 1209-3 is not the embedded version.

No. The 1209 uses vandal-proof fittings throughout and can't be disassembled without special tools. Trimco specifically notes no component can be pulled off and fashioned into a weapon, which is why it shows up in detention and behavioral health work where standard set-screw stops get defeated.

A wall stop only works if there's solid wall directly behind the door swing at bumper height. Where the door swings into open space, a glass or partition wall, or a wall you can't back up with blocking, the 1209 floor stop is the answer because it takes the load into the floor instead. The tradeoff is a fixed obstruction on the floor, so on tight corridors and pathways confirm placement first. The 1209 is ADA compliant, which is what keeps it usable in public circulation areas.

The 1209-3 is a stop, not a holder. It catches the door and protects the door and the surrounding wall, but it does not latch the door in the open position. If you need the door to stay open, you want a floor stop with a hold-open arm or a separate holder rather than the plain 1209-3 bumper version.

Eight finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless steel, and 630 satin stainless steel. For institutional work where you're standardizing across a building, 626 and 630 are the usual matches to commercial lever and closer hardware.

For a house or an apartment interior door it's more stop than the opening needs; its place is schools, government and military buildings, industrial facilities, and detention work.
