Trimco TRI-1630-12.630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What sizes does the Trimco 1630 push bar come in, and do I have to specify a center-to-center?
The 1630 single push bar is offered in 12, 18, 24, 30 and 36 inch sizes, and center-to-center must be specified when ordering. Trimco prices push bar sets and push/pull sets up to 34 inch center-to-center, so a 36 inch bar sits outside that standard band. Get the ctc off the door prep or the bar you are replacing before you order, because the bar is made to that dimension rather than adjusted in the field.
2) Will a Trimco 1630 push bar protect a panic device from carts hitting the door?
That is one of the things the 1630 is built for. Trimco makes the 1630 Series from 1-1/2 x 3/8 inch material specifically so it can serve as a protection device for panic hardware and locksets against rolling carts and other vehicles, as well as a heavy duty push bar. Mount it so the bar stands proud of the exit device and the cart hits solid bar stock instead of the touchpad.
3) Can I get a Trimco 1630 push bar mounted back to back on both sides of the door?
Back-to-back mounting is available in the 1630 family. The plain 1630 is a single push bar; for a through-bolted pair on both faces of the door, the 1630B is the back-to-back version sold as a pair. Same 3/8 x 2-1/2 inch bar profile either way.
4) What should I use instead of a straight push bar when the opening needs an ADA compliant offset pull?
The Trimco 1630 is a straight single push bar in 1-1/2 inch by 3/8 inch material. When the opening calls for an offset pull instead, the Ives 8145 is a 45 degree offset door pull with heavy duty mounting hardware in the ADA compliant EZ series, and the Ives 8169 is a C style offset solid pull, 1 inch diameter with heavy duty mounting. Both put the grip off the door face rather than parallel to it, which is the geometry an offset spec is asking for.
5) I need push and pull on both sides of the door - is the 1630 the right part?
The Trimco 1630 is a single push bar, mounted on one face. Trimco's own 1630B is the back-to-back pair in the same 3/8 inch by 2-1/2 inch profile. If a back-to-back set from another maker suits the job, the Deltana SSPOBB24 is a 24 inch back-to-back modern offset pull, the Deltana SSPORBB24 is a 24 inch back-to-back round offset pull, the Deltana OHP620 is an off-set handle pull back-to-back set for 1-1/8 inch to 1-3/8 inch doors, and the Sure-Loc PL-2KN is a knurled long door pull in a double-sided version.
6) What finishes does the Trimco 1630 push bar come in for matching the rest of a building's hardware?
Seven architectural finishes across the size range: bright brass (605), satin brass (606), oil rubbed bronze (613), dark oxidized satin bronze (613E), matte black (622), bright stainless steel (629) and satin stainless steel (630). Those are standard BHMA finish numbers, so 630 satin stainless on the push bar matches 630 on your exit devices and pulls. All seven are offered in every size from 12 through 36 inches.
7) Is the Trimco 1630 push bar solid brass or stainless, and is it made in the USA?
Made in the United States, in stainless steel, bronze or brass depending on the finish you pick. The 605 and 606 finishes are brass, 613 and 613E are bronze, and 629 and 630 are stainless steel. For a wet or coastal exterior opening or a washdown area, take the 630 satin stainless.
8) Should I use a push bar or a door pull on the push side of a commercial door?
Push bar on the push side, pull on the pull side. A 1630 push bar runs horizontally across the door and gives a shoulder, hip or cart something flat to hit, which is why it suits schools, hospitals, manufacturing plants and multifamily corridors. A grab pull like the Ives 8102HD heavy duty straight pull or the ABH AB3300 flat end pull is what goes on the opposite face where somebody has to grip and draw the door open. If you want the hand on one side and cart protection on the other, order the 1630 for the push face and a pull separately.
9) What is the difference between the Trimco 1630 and the 1637 push bar?
Bar width. The 1630 is a 3/8 x 2-1/2 inch push bar, while the 1637 in the same series is 3/8 x 1-1/4 inch, a slimmer bar for a lighter look or a narrower stile. There is also the 1633-1 lever handle protector at 3/8 x 1-1/2 x 14 inch ctc, which is a short bar meant to shield a lockset rather than run the width of the door.
10) Is the Trimco 1630 push bar rated for commercial traffic, or is it a residential item?
Commercial. The 1630 is a commercial grade trim, and the 1-1/2 x 3/8 inch bar stock is what carries it through heavy duty push bar duty in commercial and industrial buildings, government and military facilities, manufacturing plants, public buildings, schools and multifamily. Decorative residential pulls such as the Emtek Baden 8 inch door pull are a different class of product and are not built for cart strikes.
11) I need a heavy pull for a glass or aluminum storefront door. Is the Trimco 1630 the right choice?
The 1630 is a push bar, not a pull, so it goes on the push face and does not give you a grip surface. For the pull side of a storefront, an offset pull such as the Ives 8145 45 degree offset door pull or the Ives 8169 C style offset pull is the usual heavy duty answer, since the offset gives hand clearance off the door face. If you are protecting a storefront exit device from carts, the 1630 still does that job on the push side.
12) What flat end pull compares to the Trimco 1630 on an aluminum storefront door?
For a flat end grip, the ABH AB3300 is a straight flat end pull handle at 1.00 inch diameter for commercial doors, and the ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull at 7/8 inch diameter with through-bolt mounting. Offset flat end versions are the ABH AB3310 surface mount and the ABH AB3330, which offers custom length options. The Trimco 1630 differs in section: it is rectangular 1-1/2 inch by 3/8 inch bar rather than round, and is made in the USA from stainless steel, bronze or brass.
13) Can a night latch cylinder pull replace a 1630 push bar?
No. The Cal-Royal PUL-175 is a night latch cylinder pull, 3-1/2 inch height, in stainless steel construction - it is a short pull built around a rim cylinder opening. The Trimco 1630 is a full-length push bar in 12 through 36 inch center-to-center sizes used as heavy duty trim or as a protector over panic hardware and locks. They serve different openings and are not interchangeable.
14) How do I order Trimco 1630 push bars to standardize across every corridor door in my building?
Three things fix the order: finish, size and center-to-center. Pick one finish across the fleet (630 satin stainless is the usual choice for institutional corridors), then order the size that matches each door width from the 12, 18, 24, 30 and 36 inch range, and state the center-to-center for each. Doors of different widths can carry different bar lengths in the same finish, since all seven finishes are offered in every size.
