Trimco TRI-1633-12.630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size do I order for a Trimco 1633 push bar, and is the length the overall bar or the center-to-center?
Size on the Trimco 1633 is specified center-to-center, and that is what you have to give when ordering. Stock choices are 12, 18, 24, 30 and 36 inches ctc. Trimco prices push bar sets and push/pull sets up to 34 inch ctc, so the 36 inch falls outside that standard range. Measure your existing mounting hole spacing, not the visible bar length, before you pick.
2) Is the Trimco 1633 push bar a single-side part or does it come as a back-to-back pair?
The 1633 is a single push bar, one side of the door only. If you need bars on both faces through-bolted back to back, that is the 1630B, which Trimco sells as a BTB pair. Order two singles only if you are mounting them independently rather than as a through-bolted set.
3) Can a push bar be mounted over panic hardware to protect it from carts?
That is one of the intended uses of the Trimco 1630 Series. The bar is made from 1-1/2 x 3/8 inch solid material, so it takes the hit from rolling carts, hand trucks and gurneys instead of the exit device or lockset behind it. Hospitals, schools and manufacturing floors use it exactly this way, as a strike guard as much as a push point.
4) Is the Trimco 1633 sold as a back-to-back pair, or do I need a different part for both sides of the door?
The Trimco 1633 is a single push bar, one side of the door, and Trimco offers the 1630B as the back-to-back pair within the same 1630 Series. If you want a factory back-to-back set from another maker, the Deltana SSPOBB24 is a 24" back-to-back modern offset pull set, the Deltana SSPORBB24 is the 24" back-to-back round offset version, the Deltana OHP620 is an off-set handle pull back-to-back set for 1-1/8" to 1-3/8" doors, and the Sure-Loc PL-2KN is a knurled long pull in a double-sided configuration.
5) What is the closest equivalent to a Trimco 1633 push bar if I need a round bar instead of flat stock?
The Trimco 1633 is a single push bar made from 1-1/2" x 3/8" flat material, so the grip profile is rectangular. If the opening calls for a round bar section, the Ives 8103HD is a straight door pull with a 1" round bar, and the Ives 8102HD is a straight pull with a 3/4" round bar and 1-1/2" clearance. Both are heavy duty straight pulls mounted to the face of the door in the same way a straight push bar is, so they cover the same push or pull function with a cylindrical grip.
6) I need an offset pull rather than a straight push bar on a commercial entry - what should I look at instead of the Trimco 1633?
The Trimco 1633 is a straight single push bar in 3/8" x 2-1/2" stock and does not offer an offset leg. For an offset grip, the Ives 8169 is a C style offset solid pull at 1" diameter with heavy duty mounting, the Ives 8145EZHD is a 45 degree offset pull with heavy duty mounting hardware described as ADA compliant, and the ABH AB3310 is an offset flat end pull handle for surface mount commercial use. The ABH AB3330 is an offset round end pull offered with custom length options if you are matching a specific center-to-center.
7) My spec sheet calls for an ADA compliant pull - does the Trimco 1633 cover that or should I use something else?
Among the straight and offset pulls in this class, the Ives 8145EZHD is the one described as ADA compliant, a 45 degree offset pull supplied with heavy duty mounting hardware. The Trimco 1633 is specified by center-to-center dimension in 12", 18", 24", 30" and 36" lengths as a heavy duty push bar, so if an accessibility callout is the deciding factor on the door, the 8145EZHD is the part that carries it.
8) The product name says 3/8" x 2-1/2" but the description says 1-1/2" x 3/8" material. What is the bar profile?
The 3/8 inch is the bar thickness, and the 1630 Series is built from 1-1/2 by 3/8 inch stock. The 2-1/2 inch in the 1633 designation is what separates it from the 1637, which uses a 3/8 x 1-1/4 inch profile. If you want the slimmer bar on the door, specify the 1637 instead.
9) What finishes does the Trimco 1633 push bar come in, and can I match the rest of my door hardware?
Seven finishes across all five lengths: Bright Brass 605, Satin Brass 606, Oil Rubbed Bronze 613, Dark Oxidized Satin Bronze 613E, Matte Black 622, Bright Stainless 629 and Satin Stainless 630. Those are standard BHMA finish numbers, so 630 satin stainless will read the same as 630 on your pulls, plates and exit trim from other manufacturers. Base metal is stainless steel, bronze or brass depending on the finish chosen.
10) I need a lever handle guard, not a full push bar. Is there a Trimco option?
Yes, the 1633-1 Lever Handle Protector, 3/8 x 1-1/2 inch at 14 inch ctc. It is a short version of the same family meant to shield a lever from cart damage. The 1633 push bar itself runs 12 to 36 inch ctc and is the better choice when you also want it used as the push point.
11) Is a flat push bar or a round door pull better for a commercial push side?
A flat bar like the Trimco 1633 gives a wide, forgiving push surface and doubles as a guard over the hardware behind it, which is why it shows up in schools, hospitals and manufacturing. A round or offset pull is built for gripping and pulling on the opposite face. If you want a round profile, the Ives 8103HD is a 1 inch round heavy duty straight pull with through-bolt mounting, and the Ives 8145EZHD is a 45 degree offset pull. Common setup is a push bar on the push side and a pull on the pull side.
12) What is a comparable 12" single-side pull to the shortest Trimco 1633?
The Trimco 1633 starts at 12" and is a single push bar in 3/8" x 2-1/2" stock. For a 12" single-side alternative, the Deltana SSP1210 is a 12" contemporary pull, single side. Sure-Loc also offers single-sided long pulls in three grip profiles - the PL-1RD round, the PL-1SQ square, and the PL-1KN knurled - if you want a different grip shape on one face of the door.
13) If my spec calls for a through-bolted stainless pull rather than the Trimco 1633, what meets that?
The Trimco 1633 is made in the USA from stainless steel, bronze or brass and is offered in finishes including 629 bright stainless and 630 satin stainless. If the drawing specifically calls out through-bolt mounting, the ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull at 7/8" diameter with through-bolt mounting, the Ives 8103HD is a 1" round straight pull with through bolt mounting, and the Sure-Loc PL-1RD offers concealed or thru-bolt mounting on a single-sided round pull.
14) What is the difference between the Trimco 1633 and the ABH AB3300 straight pull?
Both are straight commercial pulls mounted to the door face. The ABH AB3300 is a straight flat end pull handle with a 1.00" diameter round bar. The Trimco 1633 uses flat 1-1/2" x 3/8" stock instead of round bar and is offered in seven architectural finishes including 605 bright brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze and 622 matte black, so the choice comes down to grip section and finish match with the rest of the openings.
