1) Does the Trine 4100CDBM work with a lock that has a deadbolt?
No. The 4100CDBM is built for cylindrical and mortise locks without a deadbolt, and Trine's reasoning is that cutting a frame for a deadbolt keeper on every job serves the roughly 5 percent of installs that actually use one. If your mortise lock throws a deadbolt into the frame, you need a strike with a deadbolt cutout instead. For a latch-only cylindrical or mortise opening, the four faceplates in the box cover better than 90 percent of configurations.
2) Will a Trine 4100 run off my PoE access control panel?
Current draw is 0.240 A at 12VDC, low enough that Trine calls it PoE friendly. It takes 12 or 24VDC and 12 through 24VAC on the same body: 0.114 A at 24DC, 0.210 A at 12AC, 0.280 A at 16AC, 0.420 A at 24AC. DC operation is silent and rated for intermittent or continuous duty; AC buzzes and is intermittent duty only, so do not park an AC-powered strike in a continuously energized state.
3) Is the Trine 4100 strong enough for a high traffic commercial entry?
It is a Grade 1 strike with heavy duty construction, over 1,000,000 life cycles and 3,250 plus pounds of holding force, and it carries a UL 1034 burglary resistant listing along with UL 294 6th Edition for access control. That is the commercial specification, not a light duty interior part. It is not outdoor rated, so keep it on interior or protected openings.
4) I need a fail safe strike on this opening. Is the Trine 4100 the right choice?
Not if the opening is fire rated. The WH fire listing on the 4100 is void when it is used in fail safe action, so a fail safe application on a fire door needs a different approach. For a non-fire opening where you want field selectable operation, the Hager 2925, 2928 and 2930 are field reversible fail safe or fail secure, and the 2930 is a fire rated Grade 1 strike for cylindrical and mortise locks with 12/24VDC dual voltage. The Von Duprin 6400 carries its 3-hour UL 10C rating in fail-secure.
5) What is the closest equivalent to a Trine 4100 electric strike from another brand?
The Von Duprin 6400 is the nearest peer to the Trine 4100. Both are Grade 1 strikes built to work with mortise or cylindrical locks, and both are fire rated - the 4100 is Class A 3 hour fire rated and the 6400 carries a 3-hour UL 10C rating in fail-secure. The 6400 is a modular strike, and the Trine 4100 ships with four faceplates in the box covering 90 percent or more of cylindrical and mortise lock configurations without a deadbolt. 6) Can I use a Trine 4100 on an exterior gate?
No. The Trine 4100 is not outdoor rated. For a gate or other exterior opening, the Camden CX-ED1959 Series is an outdoor rated electric gate strike. It is not fire rated, so it is a gate answer rather than a substitute in a rated door assembly - for a rated interior opening the 4100 is Class A 3 hour fire rated and WH recognized for UL10C.
7) What is the difference between the Trine 4100 and a rim exit or vertical rod strike?
The Trine 4100 works with cylindrical and mortise locks, not exit device hardware, so it is not a substitute on a door with a rim panic or vertical rods. For a rim exit device use the Hager 2945, a fire rated rim exit strike with field selectable fail safe/fail secure and latchbolt monitor, or the SDC 30-4 Series, a 3/4 inch pullman latchbolt rim mount strike in stainless steel. For surface vertical rods, the HES Folger Adam 310-4-2 is a complete Grade 1 electric strike pac.
8) My opening has a deadbolt - can I use the Trine 4100?
The Trine 4100 covers cylindrical and mortise lock configurations without a deadbolt. For a lock with a deadbolt or a longer throw latch, the HES Folger Adam 310-1(X) is an electric strike body for 1/2 inch, 5/8 inch or 3/4 inch throw latchbolts, fire rated and Grade 1. The Securitron MUNL Mortise UnLatch is another fire rated Grade 1 option built specifically around mortise locks.
9) How do I wire a Trine 4100 strike for 24VDC?
If you pull the connector and land the wires direct, red is common, blue takes 12DC and 12-16VAC, and brown takes 24DC. So a 24VDC job lands on brown and red; a 12VDC or 12-16VAC job lands on blue and red. Same strike either way, no jumper to set.
10) Do I have to order a specific faceplate with the Trine 4100, or is one included?
Four faceplates come in the box, the four most used ones, so you do not specify a faceplate at order time the way you do with most strikes. Pick the one that matches the lock on site. The spares are worth keeping in the can too, since a different plate can take up door sag on the same opening later. The only thing you choose when ordering is finish.
11) What is a good alternative to the Trine 4100 if I need latch monitoring?
The 4100 is a plain fire rated Grade 1 strike with no monitoring output. If you need to prove the latch is home, look at the Dortronics 3300 Series, which has a latch bolt sensing switch and drops into the same 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inch ANSI prep, or the Camden CX-ED1799L-8, a fire rated Grade 1 dual monitor strike that ships with eight faceplates. 12) What is a simpler electric strike than the Trine 4100 for a non-rated interior door?
If the opening carries no fire rating requirement, the SDC 15 Series is a value electric strike for a 5/8 inch latchbolt with 12/24 VDC operation, and the SDC 25 Series is a value strike for a 1/2 inch latchbolt. The RCI 15BS is an economy strike for a special offset latch entry with fail-secure operation and is not fire rated. The Trine 4100 is the choice when the assembly has to hold a Class A 3 hour fire rating and you want the four faceplates and 12 through 24 AC as well as 12/24 DC.
