Ty-Rap FOS150-50-0 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What bundle sizes do the Ty-Rap Ty-Grip FOS Series hook and loop strip ties come in?
Three bundle capacities: FOS150-50-0 holds up to 38.1mm, FOS320-50-0 up to 81.3mm, and FOS500-50-0 up to 127.0mm. Pick by the finished diameter of the bundle, not the number of cables, since jacket thickness varies. For a patch panel harness at the back of a rack, the 38.1mm size is the common choice; trunk runs in a cable tray usually need the 127.0mm.
2) Can Ty-Grip hook and loop ties be reused when I re-pull cable, or do I cut them off like a zip tie?
They release and re-fasten. The hook and loop closure lets you open the tie, add or drop a cable, and close it again without cutting anything off, which is why they get used in racks and control panels where the bundle changes. A nylon zip tie is a one-time fastener by comparison.
3) Are these safe to use on fiber optic cable?
Yes, the Ty-Grip FOS strip ties are made for quick bundling of data and fiber optic cable. The soft hook and loop strap spreads clamping load instead of biting into the jacket the way an overtightened nylon tie can, so you avoid crushing or microbending a fiber run.
4) Should I use hook and loop ties or nylon cable ties in a data center rack?
Hook and loop is the right call anywhere the bundle gets touched again: patch fields, server racks, AV racks, control panel wiring that gets modified. The Ty-Grip FOS strip tie opens and re-closes, so a moves-adds-changes job does not mean cutting and replacing fasteners. Nylon ties still make sense for permanent runs you will never revisit. For fiber and data, hook and loop also avoids the overtightening risk entirely.
5) What material are the Ty-Rap FOS Series strip ties made of?
Polyethylene and nylon construction, in black. That combination is what gives the strap its flexibility while holding grip strength through repeated open and close cycles.
6) Are Ty-Rap Ty-Grip fasteners made in the USA?
Yes, country of origin on the Ty-Grip FOS Series strip ties is the United States, which matters if you are buying under a domestic-preference procurement rule for a government or institutional job.
7) What color are the Ty-Grip FOS strip ties, and will they blend in behind a rack?
Black only across all three sizes, so they disappear against black cable, black rack rails, and black panel interiors. If your facility color-codes bundles by circuit or service, these will not carry that scheme for you.
