1) Will the Von Duprin 22NL rim exit device fit a narrow aluminum stile door?
The 22 Series is a wide stile device, but it goes down further than most: it fits stiles as narrow as 3 13/16 inches (97 mm). Anything narrower than that needs a true narrow stile device instead. On hollow metal, it covers stock doors with 161 cutouts, so you are not patching the old cylindrical prep.
2) Can a rim exit device like the 22NL be used on a pair of doors?
Yes, with a mullion. A rim device latches into a strike on the frame or mullion, so on a pair you need a removable or fixed mullion between the leaves for the 22 to have something to catch. The 22 Series works on all types of single and double doors with mullion. If you cannot have a mullion in the opening (moving wide equipment through it, for example), you want a vertical rod device instead, not this one. Centerline height from finished floor is 39 13/16 inches, or 39 11/16 inches when used with a mullion.
3) What does the NL in Von Duprin 22NL mean, and what trim comes with it?
NL is the nightlatch function: the outside pull with a cylinder retracts the latch for entry, while the inside pushpad always allows free egress. The 22NL 3 ships with the nightlatch pull (escutcheon style). You still need to supply the mortise cylinder to key it into your system. The device body itself ships ready for all functions, EO (exit only), DT (dummy trim), NL, TP, K, and L.
