Von Duprin 965568 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Von Duprin 965568 DT spindle lock and what does it do?
The 965568 is a genuine Von Duprin replacement part for the door trim assembly on 606/880 Series exit devices. It holds the spindle engaged so the outside trim turns the device consistently. If the lever or knob trim on a 606 or 880 device has gone loose or is no longer driving the latch, this is the small trim component that restores that engagement rather than a whole new trim or device.
2) Is this an OEM Von Duprin part or an aftermarket copy?
Genuine Von Duprin, built to the manufacturer's original specification for the 606/880 Series trim. For facilities that standardize on Von Duprin hardware, that matters: an OEM spindle lock drops into the existing trim without filing or shimming.
3) My exit device trim lever spins without retracting the latch. Is the spindle lock the part I need?
That symptom usually points at the spindle no longer being held in engagement with the device, and on a 606/880 Series trim the 965568 is the component that keeps that engagement. It is a maintenance-level swap, not a device rebuild, so it is the first part to check before replacing the trim or the exit device itself.
4) Does the 965568 come with the trim, lever, or cylinder, or is it the spindle lock only?
Spindle lock only. It is a replacement part within the door trim assembly, so the lever or knob trim, the spindle itself, and any cylinder are ordered separately if those are also worn or damaged.
5) Is the 965568 spindle lock rated for high-traffic commercial doors?
It is classified heavy duty and commercial, which is the duty level Von Duprin assigns to parts intended for high-use openings such as schools, hospitals, retail entries and office buildings. It is not a light residential part.
6) How many options do I have to pick when ordering the Von Duprin 965568?
None. The 965568 is sold as a single configuration with no finish, handing, or size choice to specify, so there is nothing to get wrong on the order beyond confirming your device is a 606 or 880 Series.
