WAC Lighting WAC-WS-12713 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the WAC Mythical WS-12713 sconce be used in a bathroom or a covered outdoor entry?
The Mythical WS-12713 is damp location rated and IP44, so it works in a bathroom and on a covered exterior entry like a porch or soffit-protected doorway. It is not rated for wet locations, so keep it out of direct rain or spray.
2) What dimmer works with the WS-12713 LED sconce, and will a standard incandescent dimmer work?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The WS-12713 uses ACLED technology, so there is no separate driver or transformer, and it dims smoothly and continuously down to 10 percent on an ELV dimmer. A standard incandescent or MLV dimmer is not the specified control for it, so spec ELV on the plans and at the wall box.
3) Is the WS-12713 wall sconce ADA compliant for a corridor in a commercial building?
Yes. The Mythical sconce is ADA compliant and meets California Title 24 efficiency, and it also carries Title 20. That makes it usable in corridors and egress paths where protrusion limits apply, and acceptable for California energy code jobs.
4) Will the WS-12713 cover my existing round sconce junction box opening?
The backplate measures 5.5 inches, matching the 5.5 inch overall width, with the fixture standing 13 inches tall. A 5.5 inch backplate covers a standard 4 inch octagon or round wall box, but it will not hide a larger or badly patched cutout. The fixture is hardwired to a 120V box; there is no plug or cord option.
5) How much light does the 13 inch Mythical sconce actually put out, and is it enough for a bathroom vanity?
It delivers 392 lumens at 6W in a warm 3000K, with a flood distribution. That is accent-level output, meant for sparkle and ambient wall wash rather than task lighting. For grooming at a vanity mirror, pair a flanking set or add a separate overhead or vanity light.
6) Can the lamp in the WS-12713 be replaced when it burns out?
No. The light source is an integrated LED, supplied with the fixture, rated at an average 80,000 hours. There is no socket and no replaceable lamp, so at end of life the fixture itself is replaced. For MRO stocking, that means no relamp SKU to carry.
7) What finish and color temperature does the WAC Mythical WS-12713 come in?
One configuration only: Polished Nickel at 3000K, ordered as WS-12713-PN. There is no bronze, brass, or black option and no 2700K or 3500K version, so if you are matching other openings in a building the finish decision is made for you.
8) Is the WS-12713 listed for use on a permitted commercial job?
It carries ETL and cETL listings plus an IP44 ingress rating, so it is acceptable for inspection in both the US and Canada. It is not Energy Star certified, which matters only if a rebate program specifically requires that label.
9) What is the Mythical sconce actually made of, and will it hold up in a hotel corridor?
The body is solid aluminum with polished nickel hardware and concealed fasteners, and the lens is one-inch thick solid crystal with bubbles cast into it. Solid glass of that thickness and a cast aluminum base are substantially more durable in a public corridor than a thin blown shade, and the IP44 rating means dust and splash are not an issue.
