WAC Lighting WAC-PL-16017 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the WAC Lune PL-16017 picture light need a dedicated junction box, or can I plug it in?
It is a hardwired fixture, not a plug-in. WAC ships the PL-16017 with a decorative plate and a slim junction box, so you wire it into branch circuit power at the wall. No cord or receptacle option.
2) What voltage does the WAC Lune picture light run on, and do I need a separate driver?
The driver is universal voltage, 120V, 240V or 277V, and it is built into the fixture body, so nothing external is required. That makes it usable on 277V commercial lighting circuits as well as standard 120V residential.
3) Will the Lune PL-16017 dim with the dimmers already in my building?
Dimming requires an electronic low voltage (ELV) or TRIAC dimmer for smooth continuous dimming. A standard 0-10V control or an old magnetic low voltage dimmer will not work with it, so plan the control on the ELV/TRIAC side when you spec the room.
4) How wide a painting will a 17 inch Lune picture light cover?
The fixture measures 16.88 inches wide with a 17 inch backplate and projects a flood beam, which suits artwork roughly in that width range or a bit wider. For larger canvases or tapestries WAC also builds the Lune in a 27 inch size, so step up rather than trying to stretch the 17.
5) Is the WAC Lune picture light rated for a covered porch or a bathroom?
It carries a damp location rating with IP44 ingress protection and is listed ETL and cETL, so a covered exterior entry, a porch ceiling soffit area, or a bath outside the shower zone is acceptable. It is not a wet location fixture, so do not use it anywhere exposed to direct rain or spray.
6) Can I aim the Lune picture light up at a tall piece or down onto a shelf?
The head rotates 330 degrees, so you can aim it up the face of a tall canvas or roll it down over a shelf or console. Mounting is wall, up or down. Fixture height off the wall line is 2 inches, so it stays tight to the surface once aimed.
7) Can the LED be replaced in the Lune picture light when it fails?
No. The LED is integrated, one source, supplied with the fixture, and there is no lamp base to relamp. Rated life is 50,000 hours, so for a hotel corridor or gallery wall you are replacing the whole luminaire at end of life, not a bulb.
8) How much light and what color does the PL-16017 put out?
1000 lumens at 3000K warm white, drawing 15W. That is a warm gallery tone that reads well on oil and canvas without shifting color, and the 15W load means you can gang several on one circuit in a corridor of artwork.
9) What finishes does the 17 inch Lune picture light come in, and are both the same color temperature?
Two finishes, brushed aluminum (PL-16017-AL) and black (PL-16017-BK). Both are 3000K, so mixing finishes across a set of openings or a gallery wall will not give you two different light colors. Housing is aluminum.
10) Does the WAC Lune PL-16017 meet California Title 24 or qualify as Energy Star?
It is Title 20 compliant, which matters for sale into California. It is not Title 24 compliant and it is not Energy Star rated, so if your project is chasing Title 24 residential lighting credit this fixture will not count toward it.
