1) Does the WAC Kent PL-50017 picture light need a driver or transformer, and what junction box does it mount to?
No separate driver or transformer. The Kent PL-50017 runs 120V AC LED technology directly and mounts to a standard pancake junction box, which is what makes it workable on a finished wall with shallow depth. It is hardwired, not plug-in, so you need supply at the location. Backplate length is 5.2 inches, so the box stays hidden behind it.
2) What dimmer works with the Kent LED picture light? My rooms are on standard incandescent dimmers.
It dims on an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer only, and gives smooth continuous dimming on one. A standard incandescent (leading edge / TRIAC) dimmer is not the specified control, so if your rooms are wired that way plan on swapping the device at that opening for an ELV dimmer.
3) Can the Kent picture light go in a bathroom or on a covered porch?
Yes, within limits. The Kent PL-50017 carries a damp location rating and an IP44 rating, so it is approved for interior use or exterior covered locations, a porch ceiling overhang or a bathroom away from direct spray. It is not a wet location fixture, so keep it out of open weather and out of a shower.
4) How wide a painting will a 17 inch picture light cover?
The Kent measures 17 inches wide and 4.31 inches high, with a flood beam spread, so light spills well past the fixture body. That width suits mid-size canvases and bookcase bays. The head rotates 180 degrees in both directions, so you can aim the wash up, down, or back at the wall to even out coverage on a taller piece.
5) Do I have to order bulbs for the WAC Kent picture light, and what happens when the LED fails?
Nothing to order. The Kent uses a single integrated LED module, supplied in the fixture, rated 54,000 average hours at 12W and 1000 lumens. Integrated means the LED is not a replaceable lamp, so at end of life the fixture is replaced rather than relamped. For a property manager that is the trade off: no relamping calls for the life of the unit.
6) What finishes and color temperature does the Kent PL-50017 come in?
Two finishes: Aged Brass (PL-50017-AB) and Black (PL-50017-BK). Both ship at 3000K warm white, which reads neutral-warm on artwork without pushing yellow. If a job needs a different CCT, 277V, or 240V, WAC handles those as special order.
7) What is the Kent picture light actually made of, and will it hold up in a hotel corridor?
Aluminum hardware with a white acrylic diffuser. The acrylic lens will not shatter the way glass does if something hits it in a corridor or a stairwell, and aluminum keeps the weight down on a pancake box mount. Traditional styling, wall mounted with a downward aim.
