WAC Lighting WAC-PL-LED17 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the WAC Hudson PL-LED17 picture light run on 277V in a commercial building?
Yes. The Hudson 17 inch LED picture light uses a universal input driver rated 120V, 240V and 277V, so the same fixture works on residential 120V circuits and on 277V commercial lighting branch circuits. The driver sits inside the fixture housing, so there is no remote transformer to find space for. It is a hardwired fixture, not a plug-in, so you need a junction box or wiring feed at the mounting location.
2) What dimmer do I need for the WAC Hudson LED picture light?
An electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The integrated LED driver in the Hudson picture light is ELV dimming only, so a standard incandescent/leading-edge (TRIAC) wall dimmer or a 0-10V control is the wrong device here and will likely give you flicker or drop-out. Spec an ELV dimmer on the circuit and you get smooth continuous dimming.
3) Can this WAC picture light be used in a covered outdoor area or a bathroom?
It is damp location rated with an IP44 rating, so a covered porch, a breezeway, a hotel corridor, or a bathroom away from direct spray is fine. Direct rain or a wet location is not. It carries ETL and cETL listings, which covers you for both US and Canadian jobs.
4) Will I ever have to change a bulb in the Hudson picture light?
No. The light source is an integrated LED rated for 50,000 average hours, and there is no socket or lamp to replace. For a property manager or MRO buyer that is the point of the fixture: at typical gallery or lobby run hours it is a set-and-forget install with no relamping ladder work. The LED is supplied with the fixture.
5) How much light and what color does the WAC Hudson 17 inch picture light put out?
1125 lumens at 3000K warm white, drawing 14 watts maximum. Light passes through a white acrylic diffuser, which is what keeps the wash even across a canvas instead of showing a hot stripe. Both orderable finishes ship at 3000K; WAC lists custom CCT as a special order item.
6) What finishes does the WAC Hudson PL-LED17 come in, and what are the part numbers?
Two finishes: Aged Brass, ordered as PL-LED17-30-AB, and Black, ordered as PL-LED17-30-BK. The 30 in the middle is the 3000K color temperature, which is the same on both. If you are standardizing a hotel or multi-family corridor, order by the full suffix so the finish matches across the run.
7) Does the Hudson picture light meet California Title 24?
Yes, it is listed as Title 24 compliant and Title 20 compliant, which is what California projects need for a hardwired residential or commercial luminaire. It is not Energy Star listed, and it is not ADA compliant, so keep it off walls in ADA-governed circulation paths where protruding objects are restricted.
8) Can the Hudson picture light be mounted above the art and aimed down, or below and aimed up?
Both. The mounting method is wall mount with up or down orientation, and the head swivels 35 degrees either way, so it works as a conventional over-frame downlight or mounted below a piece washing upward. Aluminum body and backplate keep the weight down on drywall or plaster mounting.
