1) Can the WAC Nightvision WS-W42020 wall light be installed over an existing junction box without adding a driver or transformer?
Yes. The Nightvision WS-W42020 uses WAC's ACLED driverless technology, so it wires directly to 120V line voltage over a standard or pancake junction box with no remote driver or transformer. It is a hardwired fixture, not plug-in, so a J-box and line-voltage feed have to be there already.
2) Is the WS-W42020 Nightvision fixture rated for an exposed exterior wall that gets rain?
Yes, it carries a Wet location rating and an IP65 rating along with ETL and cETL listings, so direct rain exposure on an open entry wall or facade is within rating. It is listed for indoor use as well, so the same fixture can run inside a lobby or stairwell and outside on the same building.
3) What dimmer works with the WAC Nightvision LED wall sconce?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The fixture dims smoothly and continuously on ELV control; a standard incandescent/TRIAC wall dimmer is not the right control for it. Worth noting on a multi-unit or retrofit job where the existing dimmers are forward-phase.
4) Will the Nightvision WS-W42020 satisfy California Title 24 on an outdoor residential project?
It is Title 20 compliant but not Title 24 compliant, and it is not Energy Star rated. If your permit set is leaning on the fixture itself for Title 24 credit, this one will not carry it, and the compliance will need to come from controls or another luminaire.
5) Can I mount the Nightvision wall light upside down to aim more light up a tree or facade?
Yes. It is a wall-mounted fixture that can be installed vertically or inverted, which is how it gets used to graze trees, sculptural elements and entry walls. Flipping it changes which end carries the stronger throw, so decide orientation before you set the box height.
6) Do I need to order lamps for the WAC Nightvision outdoor sconce, and can the LED be replaced later?
No lamps to buy. The light source is integrated LED and included, so there is no socket or bulb base to stock as a spare. The tradeoff for an MRO buyer is that the LED is not a field-replaceable lamp, the whole fixture is the serviceable unit. Rated average life is 54,000 hours.
