1) Can the WAC Reed 42 inch picture light mount over an existing junction box, or does it need new rough-in?
It mounts over a standard or pancake junction box, and a conversion plate is included for installation over a 4 inch octagonal box. The backplate is 7 inches long, so it covers the box area and leaves the rest of the 42 inch bar cantilevered. It is hardwired, not plug-in, so a box with power at the wall is required.
2) What dimmer works with the WAC Reed LED picture light?
The Reed LED picture light dims on ELV (electronic low voltage), TRIAC (standard forward-phase), or 0-10V controls, with the driver concealed inside the fixture. Dimming is described as smooth and continuous. Since the driver is integral, no remote transformer or separate LED power supply is needed at the wall box.
3) Will this picture light run on 277V in a commercial building?
Yes. The Reed picture light uses a universal voltage driver rated 120V, 240V, and 277V, so it drops onto a 277V commercial lighting circuit as readily as a 120V residential one. No separate step-down transformer is required.
4) Can the Reed picture light be used in a covered patio or a bathroom?
It carries a damp location rating with IP44 ingress protection, and is listed for interior or exterior covered use. That covers a covered porch, a loggia, or a bath area out of direct spray. It is not rated for wet locations, so keep it out of direct rain or anywhere it takes a direct water jet.
5) What size artwork suits a 42 inch LED picture light?
At 42 inches long and 3 inches high, the Reed picture light is sized for large canvases and wide gallery pieces. It throws a flood beam with an adjustable head, so you aim the wash down across the face of the piece rather than getting a narrow spot. For smaller framed work, a shorter bar in the same Reed family is the better match.
6) Can the LED be replaced when it burns out?
No. The Reed uses an integrated LED array rated 50,000 average hours, with no socket or replaceable lamp. At end of life the fixture is replaced, not relamped. For a facility standardizing on this, that rating is the number to plan maintenance cycles around.
7) Is the WAC Reed picture light ETL listed, and is it Title 24 or Energy Star compliant?
It is ETL and cETL listed with an IP44 rating. It is not Energy Star qualified, and it does not carry Title 20 or Title 24 compliance, which matters if you are specifying into a California project with those requirements. It is also not ADA compliant, so watch projection into required circulation paths.
