The Vega LED Indoor/Outdoor Wall Sconce is a simple rectangular form featuring an F-1 UV stabilized acrylic shade suitable for both indoors or outdoor applications. 1) Can the WAC Vega WS-W190109 wall sconce be mounted outdoors in rain and sprinkler spray?
Yes. The 9 inch Vega LED sconce carries a Wet location rating and is ETL and cETL listed, so direct rain and spray exposure are within its rating. The housing is die-cast aluminum and the shade is a UV stabilized F-1 acrylic diffuser, which is why the same fixture is approved for indoor runs like hallways as well.
2) What junction box do I need for the Vega WS-W190109, and will the backplate cover it?
It mounts to a pancake junction box, or directly to an outdoor surface with a wire trim out. The backplate measures 6 inches by 9 inches, which covers a standard pancake box, and the fixture ships with a 6 inch wire lead for making up the connection. Hardwired only, 120V, so there is no cord or plug.
3) Do I need an LED driver or transformer to wire the WAC Vega sconce?
No. The Vega uses AC LED technology at 120V, so there is no remote driver or transformer to find room for. You bring 120V line voltage straight to the fixture leads. That also means no driver box to locate in a shallow wall or soffit.
4) Will the Vega WS-W190109 dim on a standard incandescent wall dimmer?
No. It needs an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. On an ELV control the output is smooth and continuous down to 10 percent. A standard incandescent or forward phase dimmer is not the correct control for this fixture.
5) Does the WAC Vega wall light meet California Title 24 for exterior residential lighting?
Yes, the Vega sconce is CEC listed and Title 24 compliant. It is not Energy Star rated and it is not ADA compliant, so if your spec calls for an ADA compliant projection in a corridor or along an egress path, this is not the fixture for that location.
