WAC Lighting R6DSDN-F9CS-WT – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the WAC Blaze R6DSDN-F9CS 6 inch square downlight be used in a remodel, or is it new construction only?
It ships as a new construction fixture, but the Blaze R6DSDN-F9CS can be configured in the field for remodel use. That makes it workable on both a framed-out new ceiling and an existing drywall ceiling without buying a separate remodel version.
2) Is this WAC square downlight safe to install in direct contact with insulation?
Yes. The Blaze R6DSDN-F9CS is IC Rated and airtight, so it can be buried in insulation in an attic or insulated ceiling cavity and it will not leak conditioned air through the housing.
3) Will the WAC Blaze 6 inch downlight run on 277 volt commercial power?
Yes. Input is 120 to 277 VAC, 50/60Hz, so the same fixture works on a 120V residential branch circuit or a 277V commercial lighting circuit. The driver is included with the fixture.
4) What dimmer type do I need for the WAC Blaze R6DSDN-F9CS, and how low will it go?
It dims on either ELV or TRIAC. On ELV you get 100 to 10 percent; on TRIAC, 100 to 5 percent. If you need the deeper dim for a lounge, hotel corridor or bedroom, spec a TRIAC (forward phase) dimmer. Note that the 100 to 5 percent figure applies on 120V phase dimming, so a 277V installation needs a control compatible with that input.
5) Do I need to wire a junction box separately for the WAC Blaze square downlight?
No separate box run is required at the fixture. The Blaze R6DSDN-F9CS comes with a 20-gauge cold rolled steel driver box and metal conduit terminating in a quick connect, so the whip plugs together rather than being hard wired at the housing. Housing itself is die-cast aluminum.
6) Is the WAC Blaze R6DSDN-F9CS round or square, and what finish does it come in?
Square aperture, 6 inch. The orderable configuration is R6DSDN-F9CS-WT in white. If the rest of the ceiling uses round apertures, the square trim will read differently alongside them, so match the shape to what is already installed.
7) How long does the WAC Blaze downlight last before it needs relamping?
Rated life is 50,000 hours, and the LED is integral, so there is no lamp to replace. For an MRO or multi-family maintenance plan that means the fixture is a replace-at-end-of-life item rather than a recurring relamp line.
