WAC Lighting H-8020-CS-BK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the WAC Charge 8020 track head fit my existing H-style track?
Yes. The Charge 8020 is built for H, J, and L style track systems, so it drops onto an existing H track run. Note the wiring difference: H-style track is 3-wire, while J and L styles are 2-wire, so order the head in the style that matches the track already on the ceiling. Mixing adapters across styles is not interchangeable.
2) Can one track head cover both warm residential and cooler retail color temperature without stocking two parts?
That's the point of the 5-CCT switch on the Charge 8020. One head selects 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K, or 5000K at install, so a property manager or MRO buyer can carry a single SKU and set warm 2700K in a lobby or unit and 4000K to 5000K in a stockroom or retail display. Color rendering is 90+ CRI at any of the settings.
3) Can I use the Charge 8020 LED track head outdoors or in a covered patio?
No. It is rated for dry locations only, ETL and cETL listed under UL 1598 for dry use. Keep it to interior ceilings and walls. Damp or wet exterior locations, including covered porches and bath areas with direct moisture, need a damp- or wet-rated fixture instead.
4) What dimmer works with the WAC Charge 8020 track head?
Use an ELV or TRIAC dimmer. The Charge 8020 runs on 120V and dims smoothly down to 10 percent on either control type. A 0-10V or DALI control will not drive it, and standard incandescent TRIAC dimmers should still be checked for a minimum load the fixture can satisfy.
5) Does the Charge 8020 meet California Title 24 and Energy Star for a permitted job?
Yes on both. The Charge 8020 is Energy Star 2.0 Certified and listed as Title 24 JA8-2016 compliant along with Title 20. It is also noted as ADA compliant, which matters where a track head sits on a wall in a path of travel.
6) Do I need to buy bulbs separately for this LED track head?
No separate lamp. The Charge 8020 is an integrated LED track head, one LED module with its own driver, supplied complete. There is no socket to relamp, which is why the fixture itself is rated for 50,000 hours.
7) How far can I aim this track head for wall washing artwork?
The Charge 8020 head rotates 350 degrees horizontally and tilts 90 degrees vertically, so it can be aimed from straight down to flat along a wall from a ceiling-mounted track run. The frosted TIR lens spreads the output to cut glare, which is what you want on art and wall-wash work rather than a hard-edged spot.
8) What finishes does the WAC Charge 8020 come in, and will it match my other track heads?
Two finishes: black and white. Those are the two standard track colors, so the head matches most existing H, J, or L track runs already installed in black or white. Order the finish to match the track itself, not the ceiling.
9) Is the Charge 8020 housing metal or plastic, and will it hold up in a retail space?
Solid die-cast aluminum. The aluminum body also acts as the heat sink for the LED engine, which is what supports the 50,000 hour rated life in a commercial display that runs long hours daily.
