WAC Lighting 253401-CS-BZ – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the WAC 253401-CS-BZ path light run on my existing 12V landscape transformer?
Yes, as long as it's a 12V low-voltage landscape system. The 253401-CS-BZ is built for a 9-12VAC magnetic power supply, including WAC's LC-2531100-SS or LC-2531200-SS, or most existing 12V landscape runs. Draw is only 4W per fixture, so it adds very little load when you're sizing a transformer across a long path run.
2) How tall does the 253401-CS-BZ sit, and can I lower it?
Height is adjustable. Two separate 10 inch rods join with male-to-female couplers, so you can set the fixture at 22.5 inches with both rods or 12.5 inches with one. That matters when you're keeping light below sightlines along a walk or raising it over groundcover and mulch.
3) Can I change the color temperature after the lights are installed in the ground?
Yes. A field-selectable switch concealed under the shade toggles 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K. For a property manager matching new fixtures to existing path lights on the same walk, that means one SKU covers the warm residential look and the cooler commercial look without reordering.
4) Is this path light rated for wet locations and sprinkler spray?
It carries an IP64 rating and a wet location rating, with ETL and cETL listing under UL 1298. IP64 means dust protected and protected against water splashed from any direction, so irrigation spray and rain are fine. IP64 is not a submersion rating, so don't set it in a spot that puddles or floods.
5) What comes in the box with the WAC 253401-CS-BZ, and what do I still need to buy?
Each fixture ships with the LED module already installed, two 10 inch rods with couplers, a 6 inch steel spike with a built-in foot push bar for pushing into soil, 6 feet of 14x2 direct burial landscape cable, and two gel-filled direct burial wire nuts for the tap. What you supply is the 12V magnetic transformer, the 12-gauge or 14-gauge main run cable between fixtures, and an MLV dimmer if you want dimming.
6) Can this WAC path light be dimmed, and what kind of dimmer do I need?
It dims smoothly to 5%, but only with a magnetic low-voltage (MLV) dimmer wired on the low-voltage side of the power supply. WAC suggests their 9000-MLV-BK for best results. A standard incandescent or TRIAC wall dimmer on the line side is not the right control here, and ELV dimmers won't match a magnetic transformer.
7) Can I mount this WAC path light on a wall or deck post instead of in the ground?
No. This one is a ground-mount fixture, staked with the included 6 inch steel spike into soil. If you need a surface or wall-mounted landscape fixture, that's a different product type, not a mounting accessory for this one.
8) How long before I have to relamp these path lights?
There's no lamp to replace. The 253401-CS-BZ uses a single integral LED module rated 50,000 hours to L70, meaning it still produces 70 percent of initial output at that point. For an MRO or property maintenance plan, that's roughly 11 years at 12 hours a night with no relamping line item.
9) What does the light pattern look like, and is it suitable for ADA walkway lighting?
Output is a flood distribution with a 90 CRI, aimed down and out from under the shade to wash a path surface rather than throw a narrow beam. WAC lists it as ADA compliant, which matters on commercial walks where fixtures near the path edge need to stay within projection limits.
10) Will the finish hold up in a coastal or salted walkway environment?
The body is K-alloy aluminum with anti-scratch and anti-corrosion treatment, in a bronze finish. Aluminum with a corrosion treatment is the standard choice for direct-burial landscape fixtures where steel would rust at the spike line.
