WAC Lighting F-004-MB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Orb F-004 ceiling fan go on a vaulted or angled ceiling?
No. The Orb F-004 is not sloped ceiling compatible. It is a flush mount only fan, so it needs a flat, level ceiling. For an angled ceiling you need a fan that accepts a sloped canopy or an adjustable downrod.
2) Is the 44 inch Orb smart fan rated for a covered porch or patio?
The Orb F-004 carries an indoor/outdoor, damp location rating. That covers a roofed porch, a covered lanai, or a screened room where the fan stays out of direct rain and splash. It is not a wet location fan, so do not mount it anywhere exposed to driving rain.
3) Can I add a light kit to the Orb 3-blade fan later?
No. The Orb F-004 ships without a light kit and it is not light kit adaptable, so it stays a fan only. If the room needs the fan to be its light source, pick a fan with an integral LED luminaire instead. A cap is included to finish the fan body cleanly.
4) Does this WAC fan qualify for California Title 24 and Energy Star projects?
Yes on all three counts: the Orb F-004 is Energy Star qualified, Title 20 compliant, and Title 24 compliant, and it is also listed as ADA compliant. The DC motor draws 28W, which is what keeps it inside those efficiency programs. That combination is what specifiers on multi-family and institutional work usually need documented.
5) Does the WAC Orb fan come with a remote, or do I have to buy a control separately?
A remote ships with the fan, so the Orb F-004 is operable out of the box with no separate control purchase and no wall switch leg required for speed control. The motor is reversible for winter updraft, and there are six speeds.
6) Is a 44 inch 3-blade fan big enough for a bedroom or small office?
A 44 inch blade span suits rooms in the roughly 10 by 10 to 12 by 12 range, which is typical bedroom, home office, breakfast nook, or small commercial office territory. The Orb uses three 17.5 inch ABS blades. For a great room or an open plan space you want a larger span.
7) What finishes does the WAC Orb F-004 fan come in for matching other units in a building?
Two finishes: Matte Black (F-004-MB) and Matte White (F-004-MW). Both are the same 44 inch three-blade flush mount fan, so a property manager standardizing across units can order one finish per building or mix them room to room without changing the mounting or the control.
8) What is the Orb fan body made of, and will it hold up in a humid space like a bathroom or covered porch?
The fan body is aluminum with ABS blades, and the unit is damp location rated for indoor or outdoor use. That combination handles a bathroom, laundry, or covered exterior ceiling where humidity is high but the fan is not taking direct water.
9) Can the Orb fan blades be flipped to show a second color?
No. The blades on the Orb F-004 are not reversible, so the finish you order is the finish you see. Pick between Matte Black and Matte White up front. The motor itself does reverse for seasonal airflow.
