Metallics MSCW141SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size bolt does the Metallics MSCW141SS square channel washer fit?
The MSCW141SS is a 1/4 inch square channel washer, so it pairs with 1/4-20 strut bolts and hardware. It is sold 50 pieces to a pack.
2) Is the MSCW141SS stainless steel suitable for outdoor or coastal installations?
It is made of 316 stainless steel, the marine grade commonly specified for coastal, wash-down, and chemically aggressive environments. That is a step above 304 for chloride exposure, which is why electrical contractors use it on rooftop and exterior strut runs.
3) Why use a square channel washer instead of a round flat washer on strut?
A square channel washer is sized to sit inside the lips of the strut channel so it cannot rotate and it spreads the clamping load across both lips. A round flat washer can spin, ride up on the lip, and concentrate load in one spot. For 1/4 inch bolted connections into channel, the MSCW141SS is the right washer.
4) Can I mix the MSCW141SS with galvanized strut and galvanized bolts?
Mechanically yes, but mixing 316 stainless with galvanized hardware in a wet or coastal location invites galvanic corrosion at the joint. If you are specifying 316 washers because of the environment, run 316 bolts, nuts, and channel nuts with them.
5) What part number do I order for Metallics 1/4 inch 316 stainless channel washers?
Order Metallics MSCW141SS. That is the manufacturer part number for the 1/4 inch square channel washer in 316 stainless, packaged 50 per pack.
