Metallics SW78B – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size bolt do the Metallics SW78B flat washers fit?
The SW78B is a 3/4 inch flat washer, so it is sized for 3/4 inch bolts, anchors, and threaded rod. For strut hanger rod, all-thread, and anchor bolt work, match the washer call-out to the rod diameter, not the nut size.
2) Are Metallics SW78B washers zinc plated for damp or outdoor use?
They are zinc plated steel. Zinc gives corrosion resistance for indoor, dry, and lightly damp locations. For direct outdoor exposure, wet process areas, or coastal work, specify hot dip galvanized or stainless instead of zinc plated steel.
3) How many washers come in a box of Metallics SW78B?
Each box holds 1,040 of the 3/4 inch flat washers, and it is sold as a box rather than loose count. That quantity makes sense for a job stocking out hanger rod or anchor bolt assemblies across a building; for a handful of fasteners on a service call it is far more than needed.
4) Are these Metallics washers a standard ANSI dimension flat washer?
Yes, the SW78B is built to the ANSI dimensional standard for flat washers, so the outside diameter and thickness match what a 3/4 inch spec call-out expects. That matters when an engineer's detail or a facility standard specifies ANSI washer dimensions under a bolted connection.
5) Can I use SW78B flat washers under a lock washer or nut on electrical strut and hanger rod?
That is the normal use. A flat washer spreads the clamp load over the strut, channel, or sheet material and protects the surface while the nut is torqued; a split lock washer goes between the flat washer and the nut when you need resistance to loosening. The SW78B is the 3/4 inch size in zinc plated steel for that stack.
6) How heavy is a full box of Metallics SW78B 3/4 inch flat washers?
A full box runs 43.9 lbs, with carton dimensions of 9 x 9 x 6.13 inches. Plan for a one-person lift that is dense for its size, and account for the weight if you are staging several boxes on a cart or a lift.
7) What is the exact part number and brand to order 3/4 inch zinc flat washers by the box?
Order the Metallics SW78B. That is the manufacturer part number for the 3/4 inch flat washer in zinc plated steel, boxed 1,040 pieces.
