Metallics JMSW08 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What bolt size do the Metallics JMSW08 flat washers fit?
The JMSW08 is a metric flat washer sized for M8 bolts and threaded rod. If you are running imperial 5/16 inch or 3/8 inch hardware, this is the wrong washer; M8 falls between those two diameters and will either bind or leave too much play.
2) Are these M8 washers zinc plated steel or stainless?
Steel with a zinc finish. That is a standard plated carbon steel washer, fine for dry interior work such as strut, panel, and fixture mounting, but it is not stainless, so for wet, exterior, or corrosive locations you want a stainless or hot dip galvanized washer instead.
3) Can I use these M8 washers for electrical strut and conduit hanging work?
Yes. These washers are catalogued for the electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning trades, which is exactly the strut, hanger, and equipment mounting work where M8 hardware shows up. Pair them with M8 nuts and rod of matching grade.
4) Is JMSW08 a flat washer or a lock washer?
Flat washer. It spreads bearing load under an M8 nut or bolt head and protects the surface finish; it does nothing to resist loosening. If you need vibration resistance, order a split lock washer or a locking nut in M8 to go with it.
5) What are the shipping dimensions of the Metallics JMSW08 washer jar?
The packaged jar measures 3 in length, 3 in width, and 2.15 in height, and weighs 0.397 lbs. Those numbers describe the container, not the washers themselves.
