Weslock 009057N--0020 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Weslock Philtower half dummy lever actually latch the door?
No. It is a dummy lever, surface mounted with no latch, no spindle through the door, and no turning action. It is a pull only, used on inactive doors of a pair, closets, and pantry doors where you want matching trim without a working latch. If you need the door to stay shut you need a passage or privacy set instead.
2) Is the Philtower dummy lever handed, and can it go on either side of the door?
Non-handed. The single dummy ships as one lever with one rosette and mounts on either the interior or exterior face, so you do not specify left or right when ordering.
3) Is the Weslock Philtower dummy lever heavy enough for an apartment building or office?
It is ANSI Grade 3 and catalogued residential, built from solid zinc alloy. Grade 3 is the lightest of the three ANSI duty levels and is aimed at homes and light residential turnover. For commercial corridors or an institutional spec, step up to a Grade 1 dummy such as the BEST 9K Series 1DT single dummy trim, or the Accentra 455LN Augusta heavy duty Grade 1 single dummy.
4) What is a commercial-grade alternative to the Weslock 0905 Philtower half dummy lever for a high-traffic opening?
The Weslock 0905 Philtower is a Grade 3 residential dummy leverset in zinc alloy. For heavy-traffic commercial doors, the BEST 9K Series 1DT single dummy trim cylindrical lever is a Grade 1 heavy duty non-keyed dummy, and the Accentra 455LN Augusta from the 5400 Series is also a Grade 1 heavy duty single dummy lever. Both perform the same non-latching decorative pull role but are built to a commercial certification level.
5) What finishes does the Philtower dummy lever come in, and will it match my other Weslock doors?
Two finishes: Matte Black and Satin Nickel. It is part of Weslock's Transitional collection with a square rose, so it matches other Transitional Series Weslock trim on adjacent openings. If the rest of your doors use a round rose, the square rose will read as a different design.
6) What is the difference between a half dummy lever and a passage lever?
A half dummy is trim on one face with no latch at all, used as a pull on a closet or an inactive door. A passage set has a working latch and turns from both sides, so the door stays shut until you operate it. The Philtower is the dummy; for the latching version on a similar residential budget look at a Grade 3 passage leverset like the Callan Asheville or the Kwikset 200BRNL Breton passage lever.
7) Do I have to specify handing on the Philtower the way I do on a Baldwin half dummy?
No handing call is needed on the Weslock Philtower half dummy, it is non-handed and works on either face. That is not true across the board: Baldwin's Estate 5103 half dummy is ordered as a specific left hand or right hand part, so a like for like swap there means matching the hand.
8) Is there a dummy lever that comes as a pair for a double door instead of a single half dummy?
The Weslock 0905 Philtower is a half dummy - one lever and one rose for a single face. For both faces of a double door, the Emtek Classic Brass Cortina dummy ships as a dummy pair, as do the Emtek Arts & Crafts and Hammered lever dummy pairs.
9) What is the closest dummy lever to the Weslock 0905 that is not full commercial Grade 1?
Two mid-tier dummy levers sit between the Grade 3 Weslock 0905 Philtower and Grade 1 trim: the BEST 7KC Series single dummy trim is a Grade 2 medium duty non-keyed dummy, and the Callan Bentley is a Grade 2 dummy lever. Both are dummy function like the 0905 and add no latch or keying.
10) Can I use the Weslock 0905 Philtower on a bedroom or bathroom door?
No - the Weslock 0905 Philtower is non-keyed dummy function with no turning and no latch, so it cannot secure a door. For privacy at a bed or bath, use a privacy leverset such as the Kwikset 300BRNL RDT Breton privacy lever, Grade 3, or the Baldwin Estate 5103 privacy lever with 5048 rose.
11) Is the Weslock Philtower dummy keyed, and can it be keyed to match my other locks?
Non-keyed. There is no cylinder in a dummy lever, so there is nothing to key or to include in a master key system. Keying only applies to the entry or storeroom sets on the same doors.
12) The 0905 has a square rose. What other levers carry square trim?
The Weslock 0905 Philtower uses a square rose design. Among comparable leversets, the Bravura Tampa is offered with square trim in passage function, while the Bravura Atlanta, Orlando and Miramar carry round trim.
13) If the closet door needs a keyed or coded lever rather than a dummy pull, what replaces the Weslock 0905?
The Weslock 0905 Philtower is non-keyed and has no mechanical latch function. If the opening needs access control, the Delaney LP250 is a Grade 2 electronic keypad leverlock and the Lockey 1150 is a heavy duty mechanical keypad lever set in passage function fitting doors 1-1/8 inch to 2 inch thick.
