Weslock 12819XA-SL – Frequently Asked Questions
1) I need a drive-in latch for a knob or lever, not a deadbolt. What should I order instead?
A deadbolt latch will not work behind a knob or lever, because a deadbolt latch has no spring return and no bevel, it only throws when you turn the thumbturn or key. For a latching knob or lever, look at the Deltana DLE23875 drive-in latch in entry function, or the Deltana DLP23875 drive-in latch in passage/privacy function with an adjustable 2-3/8 inch or 2-3/4 inch backset. Both Deltana latches fit doors 1-3/8 inch through 2 inch thick.
2) My door is bored at 2-3/8 inch backset, not 2-3/4 inch. Will a 2-3/4 inch deadbolt latch work?
No. Backset is the distance from the door edge to the center of the bore, and a 2-3/4 inch latch reaches farther into the door than a 2-3/8 inch bore allows, so the bolt will not line up with the cross bore. For a 2-3/8 inch prep, or when you do not know which prep you are walking into, use an adjustable latch such as the Deltana DLP23875, which sets to either 2-3/8 inch or 2-3/4 inch. Measure from the edge of the door to the center of the existing hole before you order.
3) What finishes does the Weslock 12819X-SL deadbolt latch come in?
Three finishes on the Weslock deadbolt latch: Oil Rubbed Dark Bronze, Satin Brass, and Antique Brass. That is the full run, so if you are matching a deadbolt already on the door, pick the one that matches the outside trim. On most installs only the faceplate edge shows once the door is closed, so a near match on the jamb side is usually acceptable, but the exposed edge is visible when the door swings open.
4) Does a deadbolt latch come with a strike plate and screws, or do I order those separately?
A latch and a strike are separate parts, and replacing one does not always mean replacing the other. If the existing strike in the jamb is sound and the bolt lands in it cleanly, keep it. When you do need jamb hardware or a faceplate, order it as its own line, the way the Emtek 83228 faceplate and screws for the tubular pocket door privacy latch is sold separately from the latch itself.
5) My pocket door privacy latch needs a new faceplate. Can I use a standard drive-in latch?
No. A pocket door privacy latch is a different mechanism from a bored-door latch, and the part for it is the Emtek 83228 faceplate and screws for tubular pocket door privacy latch with square corners. A drive-in deadbolt latch such as the Weslock 12819X-SL is meant for a bored door edge with a deadbolt above the lockset, and it will not serve a sliding pocket door.
