Westinghouse Electric 7840900 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Westinghouse Jax 56-inch ceiling fan be flush mounted on a low ceiling?
No. The Jax 56-inch fan is down rod only, supplied with a 1/2 x 12 inch down rod and a J-hook mounting plate. There is no close-to-ceiling or hugger option, so it needs enough ceiling height to hang a foot of rod plus the fan body. For a low ceiling you want a flush-mount style fan instead.
2) Can I run the Westinghouse Jax fan with a handheld remote instead of the wall control?
No. The Jax is not remote control adaptable and no remote ships with it. Operation is through the included 5-speed wall control, which gives on/off and reverse. Plan for a switch leg and a control box location at the wall before rough-in.
3) Is the Jax 56-inch fan rated for a covered patio or a warehouse dock?
Indoor only. The Jax carries an INDOOR approved location rating, so it is not for a covered porch, breezeway, dock, or anywhere it sees damp or wet conditions. Use a damp- or wet-listed fan in those spots. Inside, it suits great rooms, offices, showrooms, conference rooms, and multi-unit common areas.
4) How big a room will a 56-inch Westinghouse Jax fan actually move air in?
It is sized for large rooms up to about 400 square feet. Airflow runs 4,832.82 CFM on high and 1,857.7 CFM on low, with three steel blades at an 8 degree pitch on a 56 inch sweep. In an open great room or a showroom that is enough throw to feel at floor level; in a small office it will be more fan than you need.
5) Does the Westinghouse Jax ceiling fan come with a light kit, and can one be added?
No light. The Jax ships with no lamps and no glass or shade, and it is not dimmable. It is a pure air-mover, so if the room needs light on the same circuit you will be specifying separate fixtures. Keep that in mind on a switch layout, since the wall control handles fan speed only.
6) How much does the Jax fan weigh and will a standard fan-rated box hold it?
Assembled weight is 14.45 lbs, shipping weight 14.96 lbs. Any listed fan-rated outlet box and brace is built well past that, so the box is not the constraint here. What matters more is that the J-hook plate is hung from a box rated for fan support, not a standard lighting box.
7) Does the Jax fan reverse for winter heat circulation?
Yes, reverse is built in and switched from the wall control rather than a slide switch on the motor housing. Running it in reverse on a low speed pushes trapped warm air back down off a high ceiling, which is where the 1,857.7 CFM low setting earns its keep in heating season.
8) Can I flip the Jax blades to a different color if the white doesn't match?
No. The Jax blades are non-reversible steel finished white on one side only, and the fan housing is white as well. It is a single-look fan, which is usually what you want when standardizing common areas or a showroom ceiling across a building.
9) How many fans come in a box on the Westinghouse Jax 7840900?
One fan per pack, model 7840900, with the wall control included. If you are outfitting multiple units or a run of common areas, order by the unit count you need; there is no multi-pack configuration.
