The box is included. The kit ships with the brace, a 15.5 cu. in. dual-mount electrical box, the Saf-T-Cap, mounting hardware, a Romex connector and instructions. For a retrofit through an existing ceiling opening, that is everything on the rough-in side; you still supply the fan or fixture and its own canopy hardware.

The included box is rated 15.5 cubic inches, which is the number you use for box fill. It is 1-1/2 inches deep and has 6 knockouts for Romex or conduit, with one Romex connector in the kit. If your ceiling junction carries several circuits through it, count your conductors against that 15.5 cu. in. before you commit; a feed-through with multiple cables can run it tight.

That is the case it is built for. The brace expands between the joists from inside the existing ceiling hole and bites in with its teeth, locked down by the screw, so no drywall has to come out and no blocking has to be nailed in from above. Where you do have attic access and are framing new, a nailed-on pancake or bar hanger mounted to the joist is the simpler path. For an occupied unit with a finished ceiling, the expanding brace is what keeps the repair off your punch list.

Title 20 and Title 24 compliant, RoHS, and Prop 65. It is also ADA Compliant and IC Rated. Those are the marks a municipal, school or healthcare submittal usually wants on the rough-in hardware, and they are all carried on the 101000.

Either one. The box has 6 knockouts that take Romex or conduit. One Romex connector is supplied in the kit; if you are landing conduit, bring your own fittings for each run you terminate. Commercial jobs pulling in EMT are the usual reason those knockouts get used for something other than the included connector.
