1) What is the difference between the 5711LHAWH and 5711RHAWH Wiremold internal twist elbows?
Orientation. The 5711 internal twist elbow comes left hand (5711LHAWH) and right hand (5711RHAWH), and those are the only two versions. Both are white. The twist elbow changes the plane of the raceway run, so the hand you need depends on which way the run turns as you face it. Pick the hand by standing at the corner and tracing the direction the raceway leaves it. If you are fitting turns in both directions on the same job, order both.
2) Do I need a left hand or right hand internal twist elbow, and can I flip one to work as the other?
No, the hands are not interchangeable. A twist elbow is built for one direction of turn, so a 5711LHAWH will not serve where a 5711RHAWH is called for. Determine the hand at the corner before ordering. On a job with turns going both ways, stock both hands rather than trying to make one work.
3) Are Wiremold 5711 twist elbows steel or plastic?
Steel, finished in white. That matters if you are specifying metal raceway for a commercial corridor or an institutional facility where a nonmetallic fitting will not be accepted on the run. It also means the fitting takes a knock without cracking, unlike a PVC elbow.
