Wiremold V712 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does a Wiremold V712 outside elbow actually do in a surface raceway run?
The V712 is a fitting that carries a surface raceway around an external corner, for example where a wall turns out at a column or a pilaster. Instead of cutting and bending the raceway itself, you break the run at the corner and let the elbow make the turn while keeping the conductors enclosed and the bend radius intact. It is the outside-corner version, so it wraps a corner that projects toward you, not an inside corner where two walls meet in a recess.
2) Is the Wiremold V712 outside elbow metal or plastic?
Steel. That matters on two counts: it takes knocks in a corridor, stairwell or back-of-house corner where a plastic fitting gets broken, and it keeps the run metallic through the corner rather than interrupting it with a nonmetallic piece. The whole fitting weighs about 0.1 lb, so it handles like a small sheet metal cover, not a structural part.
3) What color is the V712 elbow, and will it match the raceway already on the wall?
Ivory is the only finish offered on the V712 outside elbow. It matches ivory V712 Series raceway and covers, which is the common choice for painted commercial interiors and older office and school walls. If your existing run is white, gray, brown or an unfinished metallic, the ivory fitting will read as a different piece at the corner, so match the series finish rather than assuming ivory blends in.
4) What is the Wiremold part number to order for a V712 outside elbow in ivory?
Order Wiremold V712. That is the manufacturer part number for the ivory steel outside elbow in the V712 Series, and it is the number a distributor or counter will recognize. There is no separate suffix for the finish on this one, since ivory is the finish it ships in.
5) For a property manager adding drops in occupied offices, is a steel outside elbow worth it over just bending the raceway?
Yes, for two reasons a facilities crew cares about. A fitting gives a repeatable, square corner in far less time than field-forming metal raceway, and it looks the same on every opening you do, which is what you want when the same detail repeats down a corridor or across a floor of tenant suites. The steel elbow also holds up at the one point in a run people bump with carts and furniture. It is a corner piece only, so the straight raceway, couplings and any device boxes are ordered separately.
